Do you worry about losing your knife?

i've never worried about losing a knife because it fell out of my pocket, mind you, i normally use a belt sheath for my leatherman or WM1 or i keep them in my camera bag.

i'll occasionally leave my nice fallknivens at home and take a mora clipper with me if i'm off fishing or boating or some other activity where a knife could be lost for good.

the falky's cost ~$180, the clipper costs $20. i know which one i'd rather replace.

Some I'd be concerned about losing since they would be difficult to replace...

thought I'd lost my Sebenza once up at the ranch. ooooooooooo I was stressin''...found it next day. you get old, forget where the heck you put it...$100 griptillian's start lookin'a lot better.

not too much. i usually check my pocket whenever i stand up from sitting down. especially getting out of the car. the seat belt likes to get stuck on the clip and yank the knife sometimes.

Lost one, came out of the pocket. It was only a 21-25$ knife - a Buck Bones 870.

I carry a ZT 0301 and a CQC11 (currently getting modded, so the 0301 only for now). I tried using a CRKT M21 at first - it was a good knife for the price - but I find it hard to justify spending serious money on a knife just to leave it as a safe queen.

Though just about all of my fixed blades have to stay home, thanks to living in a sheeple state.

I thought I would feel a little strange the first time I EDC a $375 knife... but I just feel for in my pocket once in a while and I'm okay. It would suck to lose one though. When I add up what is actually part of my EDC regiment then I start worrying a little.
$375 pocket knife
$75 necker
$100 keychain knife
$75 keychain flashlight
$400 flashlight
$150 bracelet
$1800 wedding ring
$525 handgun
$150 holster

Damn .....

That's quite the collection. :) What $400 light are you carrying? Be lucky you aren't wearing an expensive watch to lose as well.

I've never lost or had a fear of losing one though. They stay clipped in my pocket.

Actually, allow me to recall an amusing anecdote.

I once traveled to San Antonio with my then-girlfriend and I brought two knives, I think it was the Offset and the Mini Mojo. Well for whatever reason I never took the mini mojo out of my suitcase and the Offset followed me everywhere. When it was time to go I looked for the mojo and couldn't find it anywhere--I checked high and low. It was gone. I had really lost something (extraordinarily rare for me).

About a month later I was moving into my new apartment for law school and I was putting some shoes up out of my luggage onto a shelf in my closet. I accidentally knocked a shoe on its side and out fluttered a Chinese fortune cookie fortune paper. It read "good things are coming your way." Then the mini mojo slid out of the shoe and fell in front of me.

I guess it, and presumably the fortune, had somehow slipped into the shoe at San Antonio and I hadn't worn that pair since. True story.

No, there are more important things to worry about. Plus, if you lose it it's not as though that is intentional. There is probably nothing you could have done about it in the first place - it is what it is.

Carry your knife around your neck.

I've actually had the same problem as KennyB in Seattle sometimes. Even though I live near Seattle, sometimes even I'm not clear on the knife laws around here and while usually I carry the knife that I want, if I am going downtown I bring a cheaper and smaller knife.

The main problem is that I don't want to get into legal issues because I had a longer than 3.5 inch blade on my knife, and since I hear conflicting info on what is or not concealed carry in my city, I leave my nicer stuff at home. I've heard if your not in downtown Seattle there is no size limit as long as the knife isn't concealed, but I would rather not take the risk of legal trouble just to carry a slightly longer knife.

In terms of actually losing my knife accidently, I usually check myself every time I sit down or get up so I haven't had any issues yet, but I have dropped a SAK on the floor while wearing pants with shallow pockets.

Edit: the only place I would really even want to carry downtown is in our Chinatown/International District, but thats more for peace of mind than anything else after I go karaoking with friends. Most of Seattle is ok, but Chinatown/International District is the one place that seems to come alive with drug addicts and gang members at night, so yeah.

I lost two Delicas. Thay were very light and clothing or branches would yank the clip out of my pocket. I switched to a heavier Griptillian and no more yanking out although I occasionally set it down for a while.

I have an Al Mar Buzzard I purchased new in 1981 for $115. I am scared to take it anywhere. I even have orange flagging tied to the sheath. I hate it when something becomes a shrine and you can't use it.

One of the reasons I couldn't imagine spending a crazy amount on knife like some of the Benchmade Gold class knives that are upwards of $1000. It would be so pretty and expensive that I'd be afraid to do anything with it except put it on the dresser and stare at it.. :)

Only lost two knives in the last ten years. One wasn't necessarily lost but that's another story. The other was a Gerber Peck that I couldn't lose if I tried. Literally lost and re-found it about 6 times before, well, I really dont know what ever happened to it.

For the past 5 years I've EDC a Native and then a D4 without any problems.

what flashlight do you have?

but to the OP, yes, i obsess over it.. so I buy duplicates! :D

also my carry history has been something like this

when I bought my first brand name knife (smith and wesson) i left it at home and carried my chinese made noname POS

when I started buying entry level BM's spydies, etc, i would carry my S&W

when I started getting into higher end quality manufactuers, I would carry the lower entry level knives

when I got into pretty classy stuff, al mars, emersons, I wouldn't feel bad carrying a 710 or something around

and now that I have TWO demko customs, I carry whatever I want around

see? happy ending plus I have a bunch of knives too!

Wait 'til you leave a gun in a hotel room and remember it when you're 3 hours into your 18 hour trip home..
I'm still looking for a misplaced PCC 3" Balisong.
Found the sheath, at least...

Ouch, dat'll pucker da bungin :p Hopefully that happened before the good ole $3/per gallon days. If not, I would of said to hay with it and bought another,,, kidding. Being safe and responsible is always #1 kids :)

I have a habit of sort of smacking my hip whenever I stand up to see if my knife's still clipped into my pocket.

It probably looks pretty weird.

You obiously need a bigger knife, then. Something you can always feel.
