I've got Benchmades, Spydercos and Kershaws, some I've carried for more than 10 years that have yet to "wear out"
The ZT 0301 (with Ti framelock) I've been carrying every day since Dec 07 still locks up in the same spot it has been for that period of time.
My 875 Sentinel locks up in the first 40% of the blade. Titanium on that one too and it's thin as hell.

I even have a worn out beyond recognition Random Task that I got from Dave and after replacing all the screws it locks up in the first 25%.
And this thing was beat to death.

Liner/frame locks wearing out? I don't I have that problem. Do you?

my very used sebenza is still going stong after 5 years of use. and it is rock solid at 50% lockup. even if it wears out in my lifetime, a quick spa visit will fix her up in a jiffy.

I believe that the majority of the aggressive lock wear would either be due to a soft titanium liner or abusive use of the knife. I say "abusive" others say "hard use" it doesn't really matter, I'm not trying to differentiate here. If you use the knife hard parts are going to wear out faster.

I've never had a liner lock knife wear out on me. I had a Military where the liner lock moved over a bit from the initial lockup but hasn't moved since then.

Only liner I've ever worn out was a EKI

I've never known any of my liner locks to wear-out, but I have noticed lately that my Leek's framelock now engages to the point where it nearly touches the opposite liner.

I generally don't have problems with this issue, then, unless that leek starts developing blade play or something... :(

That's called "wearing out..." :o

I think that AO and waved knives with liner locks are going to wear more quickly because the liner travels with more momentum with the quick opening. And liner locks probably wear faster than other types of locks, although that doesn't mean that a liner lock is going to wear out in one or two years, of course...

I have one S&W Extreme ops that I have carried almost every day for 9 years, This has always been my knife to abuse and it locks like a vault and shows no sign of wear to the liner lock. I got it at the local farm store for 6.00, It really is the best cheap knife that I have seen.

My Benchmade Stryker has a very late lockup, so it's headed in that direction. Also my faithful Benchmade Pinnacle is at 100% engagement and is starting to show a bit of blade wiggle, so its time may be coming as well. I love the Pinnacle so much that I have a replacement for it waiting in my safe.

I'll try to get a picture of the lockup on those knives and post it later today.

Not mine. I soft-set the locking bar into place when I knifesterbate. I only let 'er snap in when it's time for business.

I have 2 liner-locks that are wore out. They are both Buck Odysseys. One is a 186 that I carried to work for 5 years. It has lots of blade play and the lock touches the other side. The 2nd one is a model 181 with ATS-34. I bought that one used and the liner was about gone at that time. I used it for another 1 1/2 years. Now it is totally gone with tons of blade play.

I also have a Kershaw Leek frame lock that is well used and now has about 80% lock up.

I am a bricklayer and work around a lot of dust. Some days there is a 1" of dust and grit in my pockets. I would say that causes most of the lock wear on my knives.

I just ordered a crkt natural it's AO but people say it's overbuilt with heavy lners so can anybody tell me how it will wear sorry if I sound ignorant

Nope, never experienced any wear on either Liner Lock or Framelock knives, whether it was titanium or steel

I carried a Benchmade Stryker every day for several years, and yes, the titanium liner lock did eventually "wear out". I'm not sure if it's because of lock-face wear, or metal fatigue, or both, but the lock is no longer reliable. It can disengage unintentionally, and has done so on a few occasions. The knife has since been retired, and resides happily in my collection. I wish they'd still make the old-style Strykers. It was a great knife, and I'd gladly carry another. I don't like the new "nitrous" version nearly as much.

To be fair, I wrist-flicked the thing nearly every time I opened it. I had no idea this was considered "abuse" at the time.

I've never "worn out" any other liner locks, but I have never carried one for as long as the Stryker.

Can't you send it to BM for warranty repair?

Silent John, don't wrist flick 400 times per day or just when opening for regular edc use. Although I haven't had one of those knives it should be decent so edc it with no worries you should be ok. I've carried and used framelocks or linerlocks since I was about 10 years old. Never wore one out, except one Mission MPF 3 which is high end all titanium knife that should have lasted for a generation or more. However the lock bar interface was poorly engineered and even more poorly manufactured so the lock wore extremely quick. Less than 2 years of edc and real world use sent the thing to the shop and it still has problems. Remember though that was not through abuse or use but because the knife was poorly designed in one area and then poorly made in that same area.

I have worn out two EKI CQC7a's. Lock hit well passed center on both. This isn't with alot of waving either. One had a wave feature and one didn't. I liked them both though. keepem sharp
