doc martains made in china now...

http://www.newrockstore.com/

I order from these guys, cost a heap, I'm in very large sized boots so I have a pair of "373 Itali y Nomada Negro Planing Negro M3 Acero" which cost €196.27. I'm sure its not alot for some but I'm not in the best socio economic background, and I'm an apprentice on stuff all wages. :( other wise I'd have several pairs from New Rock...New Rock boots replaced my old DOC's cause the quality went to hell with them.

Hey Robert B.

You're in australia and you're ordering boots from across the world? And those boots look like boots for someone going to a marilyn manson concert. Must be heavy.

and gajinoz

For everyday wear boots you can't beat the good value made in australia boots. There's Redback , Rossi , Blundstone and even RM Williams.

I just love australian products. I only wear my RM williams or Redbacks everyday. I find changing boots every couple of days prolong their use as they get to dry for that period of time.

Other choices would be the already mentioned Italian and German boots. Scarpa, Meindl, Zamberlan and Lowa. But some of these boots are designed for hiking and may be a bit stiff for everyday wear.

As far as I can I stick to this formula

Watches - Swizerland
Boots - Italy
Tents - US
Knives - US
Camera - Japan
Optics - Europe
Outdoor Clothes - UK. US

Doing this I am rarely dissapointed.

For watches i'd go with Swiss or a Made in Japan Casio G-Shock. I've only got 2 anyway. A Casio G-Shock and a TAG i got as a wedding gift.

Boots it's gonna be australian or some of the european ones. Redback or RM Williams. Although i do have Zamberlan hiking boots and a Meindl travel boot which i rarely wear.

Don't have tents.

Knives are obviosly made in USA. I EDC a Benchmade or Microtech.

For Cameras there are only 2 choices. Leica or the Japanese brands like Canon or Nikon.

Optics again Japan or Germany.

Outdoor clothes are more difficult. For Gore-tex it's actually alright buying made in china or whatever. Gore-tex will only let you use their membrane if you stick to their quality control. So almost all gore tex stuff is similar in quality made in usa or wherever. That's what i've heard anyway.

For jackets i use made in england Barbour stuff. They're great. And easy to send in for repairs or reproofing.

around 2kg each boot, works scales arnt too precise though...and I wore these when I went to the last Manson concert here ;). Boots like that are VERY hard to come by here...But I also wear aussie made Mack Truck brand boots. Good leather steel caps, I use them for work and have an extra pair for when i'm just wearing a tshirt and jeans.

But New Rock boots are very well made, just embelished with stainless steel panels and such ;)

EDIT: BTW my old DOC's were 20 eye lace ups...just below the knee height.

Twenty some years ago when I was firefighting I stopped in Spokane and had a pair of White’s Smokejumper boots made to order. I still have them .They have been rebuilt by the factory a few times and are still very usable. I was just checking out their website http://www.whitesboots.com/ and am going to have them make me some hiking boots. You trace your feet and they will make tem to fit.
