Does a knife with a g10 scale with no liner inside turn you away from buying a knife?

What about a knife with only a CARBON FIBER scale? Among other reasons, I passed on the ZT 804CF, because there is no steel or titanium under the CF Scale.

To help ease your mind a little more, the washers inside shouldn't be moving (spinning) when you open/close the knife. The washers should remain stationary so the blade can glide along the surface of the washers.

Basically what I'm saying, is that there should be little-to-no wear on the G10 over a long period of time:thumbup:

I don't buy any knife without liners. Why? Because that extra fraction of an ounce to an ounce I can't tell but I can tell added strength since my normal use is most people's abuse

We could pose this question a few months from now and the majority would lean to knives WITH steel liners .......just sayin....

I've had a few, and the Cold Steel are so rigid and light.

You really will break a blade before the handles.

Modern polymers are amazing. They wouldn't use them in guns If there were weak, and a firearm is going to put it through a billion times more stress than a knife handle.

Completely depends on the knife. Sometimes I think the knife turns out a little flimsy (such as the Buck Bantam) but other times it's all right (such as many spydercos). Personally I look for a liner, especially in the cheaper knives

G10 is a structural composite and provides excellent rigidity. The liners add some weight and are an additional point for maintenance. For a folding knife, I can't see a problem unless it wasn't done right to begin with.

No issue, it simplifies construction and is lighter without liners. There are tons of knives out there without liners that do great even under heavy stress.

Quite durable. Have hard used my linerless CS without issues.

Was it nutnfancy that started the trend ? Long ago I remember him complaining about liners.

(I know, Hinderer uses the same) have me second guessing if I should buy one. Would love to hear your opinions. Thanks!

Well, would a Hinderer have you second guessing? That should answer the question....

I would have to say it might but it just depends upon the way the knife is made overall and how I will use the knife.

In a good product no i wont mind. My manix 2 lw is rock solid and its entire handle is frn. Although on a cheaper knife (sub 40$) ill be weary. I tried a colt with d2 steel. And the linerless g10 was garbage.

When I want a light knife that is still pretty rugged I would rather have no steel.

If its a brand I trust, then no problem. If its a brand I don't... well, it don't matter since I'm buying the other knife, from the brand I know and trust (even if that trust comes from this lot of miscreants)

Inwould prefer a liner. But i also know that most of that is in my head as i have yet to see an instance of failure due to a g10 only side.
