Does anybody else have bald spots on their arms?

I do a lot of sharpening for guys from work so I've got a constant bald patch on my left arm.

I find that the hair up toward my elbow grows really quickly so I just test with that hair. It's back within 36 hours usually.

You guys have awesome wives not saying mine isn't awesome, but she wouldn't let me touch her with a knife. Everytime i sharpen one and she sees me she just rolls her eyes. Thats ok, I've got for kids that support my knife sharpening hobby. Can't wait till they get little more hair on their arms then I'll start using them! Haha

I have a couple patches on my shin growing back after I last sharpened my EDCs. Once you start, the fascination takes over, next thing you know, your leg is half shaved.

Haha - Great thread! Did all the kitchen knives and a few pocket knives last week. Left arm is all stubble and a few patches missing from the right. :)

I had to text my best friend and have her check out this thread.
She's been teasing me about my bald spots for years now.lol.

I remember once when I was only about 13 or so and I was on a sharpening
binge one weekend. I ran out of arm hair long before I ran out of knives.
So on to the legs... I was kind of clumsy at 13... so then I got some stitches...lol
Six I think. Right shin. Oh the memories...lol
You live, and with any luck, you learn.

Haha that's awesome, when i was thirteen i couldn't even get my knife sharp enough to cut hair. Maybe I would have ended up worse! I just shaved a nice bald spot on my left arm last night. Maybe I'll just shave them both clean that way i can just keep shaving them every couple days and no one would notice the bald spots.

I just showed this friend to my girlfriend. "Who are these people?!?!?!?!?!" was her answer. She's been going on and on about the patches on my left arm.

I only use the hair on the underside of my forearms for testing (the little thin stuff), so its not really noticeable, since I only really test it on a hair or two.

Before I try to see if it will pop hairs, I test on paper. After it passes that I try the forearm. If a blade passes that test, I see if I can whittle one of my beard hairs. Right now I'd say about half of my knives can do that regularly, while most of the rest do a fair job on the arm hairs.

And yeah, there are some pretty funny responses in here :).

People give me a hard time about it.....I go through sharpening phases that leave my left arm pretty spotty. This most recent one has been pretty intense, I'll touch up at least a couple of my users 2 or 3 times a week.

My left arm is bare, shaved my left hand with my new opinel #10 slim when I was bored at work the other day. Oh well. I don't care if other people think its weird. Sharpening is relaxing for me.

Used to be just my arms but then I bought a Billy strip from stropman. Now I'm hairless from my boxers south TOO. Stropman said I probably look like Michael Phillips as swimmers remove all body hair to reduce drag

I had to go to rehab not long ago for being a raging alcoholic. When they were looking me over for scars and wounds and stuff they asked me why I had bald patches all over my arms and legs. I said I recently sharpened all my knives and had to test their sharpness. Then it took 10 minutes of me convincing them that I wasn't a "cutter" and wasn't suicidal even though I had no cuts on me (not from knives anyway, I had some from falling all over the place the week prior). I couldn't articulate this very well though since I had a .34 bac during this process
