(Sorry, bacause of no search for me,its hard to find topic)
How to count a price of import delivery for individual?
Is some tax excempt sum?
As I know ,the rule is like it:
(Price+delivery cost)*1.37=EuroPrice, then
(EuroPrice+8,5%(custom duty))+19%(VAT)=FinalPrice
BUT! I dont sure in it ,and I heard some that Sum less than 150EUR is Tax free (including delivery cost or not?).
So if somebody knows exactly,Please write!
Maybe some knows a link to topic that have been earlier in forum concerning this theme.
Please confirm or reject my knowledge.
Thanks.
(IN this topic I talk about rules in Germany, but I think EU rules is the same (may be besides VAT)

It wil vary from country to country but you can expect to pay a fairly heavy import tax and customs charges. The last thing I imported from memory it cost me a fairly big percentage of the value of the item to import it

In Holland, you may import up to €150,- (including shipping) without having to pay duties but don't be surprised if you end up paying anyway for cheaper packages, I often do and there's no way around it. You might try to reclaim it from Customs after, good luck on that.

So what I do is have a friend buy it in the US for me, repackage it, ship it to me and LIE on the actual value.
I feel zero need to be honest to thieves.

yep, that's what I usually do too
some dealers may be willing to help you out, just ask before ordering

Depends indeed, sometimes packages way over the tax limit go through, sometimes not. I politely ask if they can send with lower value, since Im not fan of customs. Some blood honest people refuse, but for instance in eBay, people are more into reality and send with false value.

Ive sent friends "gifts" to the UK and Holland marked with low value and they still got stuck with huge fees. The thieves dont always buy the lies.

What country are you in? I have a friend(another US soldier) who has ordered things from the states for his German friend to save him some money..

Hasn't happened to me. Yet. Hope it stays that way. One tip: a 'gift' can be a giveaway (pardon the pun) to Customs. A straight 'sale' will usually be taken at face value. Just don't write "Authentic Mint Gold Rolex Daytona 300 diamonds" on the box, and designate it $35. ;) Customs here are usually not yet up to speed with the price of Busses and Hinderers. :)

What I tried out today: There is customs rules where packages less 22EUR is tax free,
22-150 EUR -only VAT,more 150EUR-full duty.If parcel is private, cost not includes postal charges,if commercial (you bought something in a shop)-price (for taxation) includes postal ch.
Small price on parcel (if you ask seller) may not help, because proof of price for customs is your receipt of payment. But I think conclusions always have place (for lucky guys)

I live in Austria, and it feels like a lottery, sometimes a high value knife will come without a customs check, and other times a cheap knife will be nailed with import duties..my last conquest, a temperance 2 from cutlery shoppe, had to pay 35 bucks import duty, but the overall price was still 100 dollars less than I'd pay from a European dealer...definitely worth it. The dealers here really try to make a killing on American products...

In Finland, Customs will not collect a sum that is under 10 Euros. Which means that with 22% VAT, as long as the value is not over 45 Euros, they aren't interested since the sum to be collected would be less than 10 €.

Same rule with 150 € and under being exempt from duty but VAT must be paid. Probably an EU-wide agreement since I've heard of it from other countries too.

You really have to do your math and know the tariff amounts, VAT levels and currency conversion rates that Customs uses before ordering, so you are prepared and know how much it can cost in total.

Sometimes it just plain sucks, I know. :grumpy:

Is he a US soldier serving in Germany?
Is there some tax preferences for US soldiers in Germany?

Shipping is included in the value for customs calculation. (The VAT is calculated from the value of the item + shipping + customs duty.)

If this value is less than 150 EUR, you do not have to pay customs duty* (you can find rates here)
* = based on Article 1, part 3) in COUNCIL REGULATION (EC) No 274/2008, amending Regulation (EEC) No 918/83 setting up a Community system of relief from customs duty

VAT rates are up to your country's legal regulations. I.e. you have to research your VAT rate and if there is or is not a tax relief. If the value of imported goods is less than 10 (or 22 EUR), it will be relieved from VAT (with possible exception (member state decision) for mail orders) (see Article 23 of Council Directive 2009/132/EC of 19 October 2009 determining the scope of Article 143(b) and (c) of Directive 2006/112/EC as regards exemption from value added tax on the final importation of certain goods).
