It's kind of a silly question, but it came up when I got my Fiddleback nessie... My son and I were playing with it and he asked what I was going to call it. I haven't normally named blades but I decided on Grim Fiddle for my nessie, named after a character in a book called The birth of the People's Replublic of Antarctica . The only other blade that I have with a name is the Lone Ranger, the RD7 that Ilbruche modded for me... Does anybody else give their knives a moniker?

All the time! and most of the time the names have nothing to do with gender... but more with something or a phrase the knife reminds me of...

Mark - That makes sense, if I was a maker, I reckon I would name them all...

Pit - Are you sure you don't mean Brutus or something?:D

I found this blade years (and years) ago in a pawn shop. First (and last) time that I wiped the blade by putting it in the crook of my arm, I sliced a 2 1/2 inch circle from my flannel shirt and my forearm. :o

i scribbled in sharpie on the handle of an old hatchet i picked up and rehandled "jack"

other than that, i mostly use the names that the production company or maker gives it, or in the case of my own knives, i just name them in generalities..ie scandi, EDC general purpose, woodsknife etc.

Every once in a while I yell out - "where's my pigsticker", then I squeal like a pig, walk out in my bathrobe with crazy hair, a cigar sticking out of my mouth, RC-4 fixed to the bathrobe tie - and introduce myself to my daughters date....

Well I got the squeal like a pig part from watching Deliverance for the 14th time last night. I think Ed carries a black jack 7 in stag! His knife was named - 'I wish Louis was here.....'

I like that mustard patina on the lone ranger - suites the handle slabs well!

I just call it "my beloved Becker", probably because it is the first knife I tend to grab when heading out. Sharp, tough, and reliable.

JF,

That thing looks like its got an edge, is that a Blackjack?

It has Haller stamped on one side of the blade and a flying eagle on the side showing. I've done a search on Haller and found www.hallerknives.com, but it doesn't look anything like the blades offered there. But then again, I've had it for almost 20 years now...I always thought of it as a Blackjack knock-off.

KGD - Thats great... I had a real menacing guy that worked for me in a security role, he used to sit down with his daughter's suitors and say to them "Son, I want you to think about this... whatever you do to my daughter, I'm gonna do to you." You had to have seen the guy to appreciate it...

Rocky - Man, I like that knife!

JF - some of those Haller's don't look bad to me, 52100 is a pretty good blade steel, isn't it?

I'm not very original. I call my Griptilian "Blade." Not very creative, but everyone in the restaurant knows what I'm talking about when I ask "where's Blade?"
