Does anyone have experience with Deuter?

JCK, that also looks good! If everything works out this weekend, I'm going to my "supply store" to take a look at their Deuter packs. According to their website, they have both the ACT Trail 32 and the Futura Pro 42, and then I can see how big they really are.

Yeah I'm not too sure if you have access to it, or if its available for you to purchase, but here in Australia, that was the best one they had in the shop, at mountain designs. They are a bit overpriced, but their staff actually were pretty helpful, compared to say Anaconda, the whole, "I just work here"

Of course the ones you mentioned look great too, i guess it depends on what system you want, and capacity, as I think the frame and padding and straps on the guide was the best in the store, and the guy who was helpingme said that deuter is on top of their game at the moment, in terms of quality and so on.

IMO, Deuter make some of THE BEST packs out there, and they are affordable!

My ACT Lite 65+10, has to be one of the most comfortable packs I have ever worn. I'm so glad I found this one instead of paying more for a Gregory that wasn't as comfortable.

My wife also has the woman's version, and she LOVES it! More than any other pack she has ever worn.

The ones we have are last years model, they've made a few little tweaks to this years model, the links are the new model. Here's ours:

Alright! That's the stuff I want to hear !
I know how great the quality of Maxped's products is, but since I only have a small FAK pouch from Deuter, I don't have the foggiest idea about their packs, specially in the comfort department. One thing is to try out the pack at the store, but hearing about how it worked when in use is something a lot different.
Thanks for the feedback!

For what it's worth, my son hiked all over Europe with one and has a smaller one for when he does long bike trips. He says they are the best but I don't know the models. Now he is planning a Boston to Austin (TX) trip.

My son loves his Deuter.

I tried it for a couple miles. I thought it was very comfortable @ 48 pounds.

mymindisamob, is that a Futura Pro 42? The last time I weighed my gear for a weekend my backpack carried 44 or 45 lbs IIRC, so if it's comfortable at 48, it will work for me too!

I am not sure, but will ask him later today when I see him.

You'll be happy with the Deuter. One big advantage I think the Deuter has is ventilation. Being that you are in Brazil, humidity is pretty high. Keeping the bulk of the bag away from your back would be great in your neck of the woods.

What part of Brazil are you in? I'm going to Rio for a few weeks in July?

I find this interesting because while volunteering at the Winter Olympics last month (I did some security and saw thousands of packpacks) I noticed that Deuter was the most common brand's worn by people other than MEC (which is big in Canada). Outside of North America Deuter must be a major brand in the world.

At least around here it's BIG with the mountaineers - 70 km to the West of me there's a big mountain range, so mountaineering is quite popular here. After Deuter, Salomon, Columbia, Sea to Summit and North Face are very popular, but in terms of backpacks Deuter seems to be the grail.

bikerider, I'm in the South (25°27'47.11"S / 49°31'23.99"O), some 600 km South of Rio .

LUW, my son says that his pack has Alpine 35+ on it. That's about all I know at this point.

After looking at many child carriers for hiking...My wife and I decided to pony up and get the Deuter. Its more expensive than the Kelty's you see, but was most comfortable on my back, and had endless adjustability. Just waiting on my REI dividend to get back later this month along with the 20% off coupon. Even if I didn't have a kid I would seriously consider a Deuter. Excellent warranty as well, at least if you get it through REI. They cover it for life.

mymindisamob, thanks for the info!

zackfraser, I always thought those backpack kid carriers were ubbercool. When my son was a baby I used a lot one of those where he sits in front of you, facing forward, and it was great to go shopping or strolling around in the city. But now that he's weighing 18 kg (~40 lbs) my poor back has ruled out carrying him in a backpack :p.

Dont worry about toughness one the Deuter. All the big brands such as Osprey, Deuter, Arcteryx, etc, make packs that are tough as hell.

Deuter is a great brand that focus on comfort and durability, and they're a proven brand.

That sure is interesting! As I said above, my kid is now too big for a backpack, but one or two years ago this definitively would have been cool to have. And one thing that I'm noticing, like everyone here is saying, Deuter seems to make a heck of a product!

Yeah I can't wait to get it.
