Does anyone have ONLY one knife?

I kind of like that idea. It would make things easier in the morning for sure. I would have to take my SnG, or even though I don't have one (yet) possibly a XM model.

I dont even have "only one" of odd stuff like swords, tomahawks and so on anymore :(

Haha, awesome.

As for me, um, I don't even KNOW where all of the knives I own are and I'm seriously OCD so what does that tell you?? Sometimes I'll be digging through some stuff in some closet or ammo can or whatnot and come across some SAK or something and don't even recall owning it! Sheesh! One?

I don't have one knife, but I don't have very many knives either (not compared to most here).

I think I have three or four "real" folders (Peanut, boker exskelimoor II, Kershaw blackout and a spyderco bug), and like 6 Fixed blades (BK11, BK2, Bk9, ZK war sword, Kabar USMC, and a Mora). This doesn't count kitchen knives, or really terrible knives that you don't know where they came from (aka, old roommates or tennants left behind, etc).

I think I could get along pretty well with one of each main type, but a single knife for everything would be pretty difficult.

For many years I had just one edc - a Victorinox Huntsman that I carried from age 12 to about 30.

There is no going back now, though...

I assume we are talking about "only one non-kitchen knife"? Kitchen knives are people too, you know! :)

i own a few but only use 1 most the time, my becker bk11, unless im in the bushes then i have 2-3 larger fixed blades and a hatchet in my gear box. own some folders, never use them, got a leatherman and it stays in the fishing gear. I think 1 good knife is practical in most situations.

my son is about to turn 4, he has 2 knives. a keychain buck and a cheapo spiderman. of course he is not allowed to play with them unless were out camping and im watching him, but even he has more than 1.

You are right. I was only referring to non kitchen knives.

And although I am feeling minimal these days, I don't know if even I could go with just one. I guess even the Vic Manager on my keychain would count as one. Maybe I'm just fond of the idea of truly using a knife until it has taken on a special meaning to me.

Interesting that those who have played along, said they might choose a fixed blade.

A couple mentions of people searching for that perfect knife. Personally, I think I found mine, a spyderco military. I use it for EDC, cooking, I've used it for a little bit of carving, I'd feel comfortable using it in a self defense/attack situation, and I think it could holds it own in any type of bush craft or survival scenario. Obviously, care and proper maintenance would need to be taken, but with all that going for it, I'm not sure I need anything else. The unfortunate thing about this, is that it has killed my desire for other knives, and even if I did find one that caught my attention, I'm not sure it would get the love it deserves. So why keep collecting? #firstworldproblems

Does anyone have ONLY one knife?

Wouldn't a better question be, who doesn't have a Knife?
Everyone knows, once you own, carry & use a knife, you soon find, Knives breed like Rabbits. :D

Of course not but I've been thinkin about it. Sell all my blades and buy a large sebenza and just use it for everything and see how well it holds up.

I kind of like just having that one tool that you've had forever thats beat up and crappy looking but does it job perfectly.

I know exactly what you mean :)

The only time in my life that I had only 1 knife was when I was 6 or 7 years old. It was my 1st knife and my father bought it for me when we were on vacation in the Poconos.
I used it mostly for whittling ( from what I remember), it was a fixed blade knife with a 1 1/2 or 2" blade, in a leather belt sheath.
It was probably the gateway.

I also had my first knife when I was in the 2nd grade and have not stopped carrying one since. I assume that most of the members here have more than one knife, but JDP brings up an important point.... gateway knife. My sister and her finance were visiting and he had a couple Randalls with him. Beautiful! Didn't even own a fixed blade knife at that point in my life. The rest is history and mucho dinero spent. But it has been a great ride!

While of course I own more than one knife. I generally do have a Go To knife that usually gets 90% or better pocket time. The others I use in specific roles. My main edc could easily handle these roles as well. It just helps me to justify why I have the others.

For the last 10 months or so it has been a BM 710 that has spent the most time.

I COULD own just the 710 but where is the fun in that! :)
