Does anyone here like CRKT?

The CRKT Eros and framelock Ripple are excellent knives, the only drawback (if you can call it that) being their tip-up only clips. The new Squid is absolutely wonderful as well.

I pretty much agree with most of the comments but I have a Hawk Dog that's pretty cool. I really like the Grant and Gavin Hawk designs and collect them. This one just happened to be made by CRKT..

That is an interesting design. It sucks that crkt does some cool designs but can't follow through with materials and qc. I would own a large fossil folder right now if they either had beter materials or was less expensive.

CRKT can make a good product if they want. One of my favorite knives is the Apache. Great form and function. Near perfect fit and finish. Good materials with an ats-34 blade.

I also like my heiho. I had a hissatsu folder. With the torsion bar in place it was impossible to open. Remove the bar and it was super smooth. The torsion bar needed significant modification to get it to work properly.

Like I said, crkt (or any manufacturer) can produce quality if they want

Shoulda posted this first ...

HOLY CRAP 400 dollars????

CRKT should maybe think about building a bit of a reputation before offering something that Hinderer, BM, Chris Reeve, Spyderco, Etc, already built a rep with for close to the same cost.

The Hi Jinx was made by Lionsteel and has all their trademark fit and finish. Ken Onion designed it. CRKT simply marketed it.

I carry a Minimalist every day. Love it despite the steel they used, though it can/does get super sharp with a stropping.
Carried a Carson F4 for a while. Sheath was not so great, but the knife was okay.
I do like small fixed blades and CRKT seems to like producing them.

This knife was pretty hard to find, most of the older G&G hawk designs are in collections. Surprisingly the fit and finish is really good. It came standard with an extra set of scales in a different design. I always thought the smaller pocket clip was an interesting idea..

Blade: Overall length: 3.50” (8.9 cm)
Cutting edge: 3.25” (8.3 cm)
Thickness: 0.15” (0.40 cm)
Steel: AUS 8, 57-58 HRC
Handle: Closed length: 4.62” (11.7 cm)
Weight: 4.9 oz. (139 g)

Forgot to include a pic of my Apache. I have heard CRKT came out with it to compete with the BM AFCK. I would like an AFCK but the prices for those are ridiculous. This thing is such an interesting design! Since I bought it on the cheap and it is used, I love to use it!

I like CRKT in general but some of their stuff can be pretty gimmicky or showy. And as silly as it is a lot of the names they give their products turn me off...particularly the Hootenanny :barf:

That said I still like a lot of their designs. I have my eye on the No Time Off. And to this day the only neck knife I own is the CRKT Bear Claw. Well, besides the Izula 2 but I consider it more of a belt knife.

EDIT: Oh, and I feel like the AutoLAWKS system is unnecessary and just gets in the way. Not a fan.

To me crkt is perfect for the guy who wants to own a knife that shares te ergos and overall design cues of the customs that many crkt offerings are based. They are for the guy who wants the look and general feel of say a flavio ikoma or a ken onion without the price. I do t feel they are serious knives for serious collectors. They simply arent producing to a high enough fit and finish and they most tomes dont offer premium materials either. I put them in the same bracket quality wise with brands like gerber, sog and the like. But i think crkt has the edge ( get it?) since they offer features that most companies dont at that price range. I actually really like alot of the designs. I just wish they would offer some higher end stuff as well. And i dont mean a random one off seriously limited production knife most cant buy.

I have a CRKT M21-02G that's actually a decent inexpensive EDC now that they're using 8CR13MOV instead of the ultra soft steel they used to use. I removed the stupid AutoLawks feature. The flipper works perfectly and the gimping is very effective. The only other thing I don't like about it is the pocket clip. Overall great knife though, I got it for nostalgia because it was one of the first pocket knives I ever had and I lost it.

As for the rest of their line, I'm not really interested.

So after careful consideration, and reading this thread and seeing a lot of complaints, im going to buy a kershaw/emerson collab cqc4 or 6. havnt really decided yet. Thanks for all the input on my question

EDIT: And if all goes well, Ill be waiting on a real Emerson

I'd go with the 4k personally. Almost an entire ounce lighter and you aren't losing much in terms of the cutting edge

I have owned several CRKT knives over the years and found them to be o.k. for the money. I have an old CRKT Mirage from around 2001 that I'm quite fond of. I gave $10 for it so i wasn't expecting a bunch either. I bought a CRKT Roll Lock in either 2002 or 2003 but never carry it, bought just for the novelty of it but its fit and finish are pretty high IMHO. For my birthday in 2008 i received an Edgie, the knife that sharpens itself every time you close it. It was only sharpened on one side of the blade if i remember right, and i sat down with my DMT stones and got a nice edge on it and closed it... the self sharpening mechanism inside the handle dulled it! So i removed the contraption and used it as a beater knife for a few years. I wasn't impressed at all. I have 3 M16's and an M21 but don't carry them due to the, in my opinion, ridiculous LAWKS safety. For what i do with a knife its really superfluous for me and I've contemplated removing them but I'm too lazy. Those are the only CRKTs i have first-hand experience with. I reckon they're ok for the $. I do prefer the older, discontinued models over new ones. Call me nostalgic. Hope that helped some

They are great for giving to a kid who you are afraid will lose a decent knife

I have had a few over the years. I liked them when I first starting purchasing knives. I now have two M16 that I can not stand and have never opened easily. I also purchased a Hammond Cruiser and the lock did not engage and it was bulky (I conveniently lost it :p)
I paid almost $80 back in 2003 for an M16 and that price point is starting to encroach on some other IMO quality knives.

I have a S.P.E.W. neck knife, always liked the M16 and would buy a Pike's Peak (green/black) this second if they still made them (for some reason it just flat out appeals to me). I like what works and don't have any complaints with my lower priced choices including the S.P.E.W., Rat 1 & Kershaw Vapor. I'm not a knife snob by any stretch, but of course if money wasn't an option ZT's, Bark River's, Benchmade's and the like are better quality.

I had a Hissatsu folder that was pretty good once the torsion bar was removed and an M21 that wasn't bad for the price. I also have the Hissatsu fixed blade that I had professionally re-profiled and is now a stabby beast. I got the Obake for Christmas and its not bad for the money. All in all I am not that impressed with their offerings, but I have been sorely tempted to get the Otanashi Noh Ken on several occasions. I haven't seen to many bad reviews on it and I like the style.

Yep. And it still sells for about double what Lionsteels own knives do. Id personally still go elsewhere to spend that kinda coin.

Dang Craytab, i TOTALLY forgot about the Apache. I had one right when it came out, but had to return it when i learned it was over the legal limit here. I loved it.

I also have a Polkowski/Kasper fixed blade. Softer steel but i have beat the crap out of it, including batonning, and it held up perfectly. Love it, but unfortunately i made the mistake of convxing the entire grind. Enhanced the functionality, but looks awful. I regret it immensely.

Their earliest stuff was sweet, but that dissolved pretty quick.

I like CRKT. I have a blue Ripple, Hissatsu, Heiho, titanium handled Big Dog, and a Nirk Tighe. If my collection wasn't already too big, there are about 4 more I would get. Their custom collaboration knives are great. IMO the Ripple and Nirk Tighe look, and deploy like customs.

Yeah, the M21 is a nice twist on the M16 series. I have to agree with you about the AutoLAWKS feature. In my mind, it is nothing more than a solution to a problem that does not exist. If you don't like the pocket clip, you can change it with one from their M16 Automatic. Just call CRKT and ask for one. I did. Makes all the difference in the world!

I too, own a couple of their knives just for nostalgia. A tanto M16 and a Prowler were the two main folders I carried in the service. Both of the knives I carried are now long gone but, I just had to replace them both. Two of my favorites.:D
