Does anyone honestly enjoy the look and feel of non-natural scales?

I enjoy the looks of G-10 but prefer micarta for heavy users in the chopper category. Mostly due to grip, which of course depends on how rough the maker leaves the micarta.

What?!?

How about this Buck 112 with elk antler...

Exactly. Unfinished, rough, asymmetrical, unprofessional. Slapped together. The buffalo one, sure, it looks good because it doesn't look like that. I appreciate you illustrating my point.

Does something look unprofessional / unfinished here to you ? Seriously ? I hold it in my hands currently. It's a sort of perfection.

Nope. I'm also not a fan. I appreciate the workmanship, but it would be picked last. Just not a fan of the bone and antler thing.

Years from now, you will regret these words.

Wait, wait, horn is even better ! No kidding, everybody likes its stuff, it's cool. Peace out!

No... no I won't. I appreciate elegance; sleek, smooth lines; well-planned and well-designed engineering; a design that looks like it was planned with effort and thought, not just slapped together with whatever was sitting around. Same reason I don't go ga-ga over the "rustic" aesthetic.

I prefer artificial materials on using knives. Natural materials tend to shrink, crack, rot, are susceptible to insect damage and can absorb moisture to promote corrosion.

For knives I handle for long periods at a stretch, my carving knives primarily, I prefer unfinished wood. When I'm outdoors and for those knives that I only use for short periods or in foul weather I prefer synthetics with a lot of grip such as my Mora Companion or the textured Nylon grip on my Victorinox Mauser. Pocket knives, I don't really care, looks are as important as feel.

I like micarta, and also the Spyderco FRN. The bidirectional FRN gives me a LEGO vibe that I really like. Takes me back to the days as a kid and getting new toys.

A more relevant question might be, "Does anyone prefer natural scales on a knife that actually gets used?"

Bone handle? Gross. I'd rather trade in my HK and start carrying a Colt Single Action in .44-40.
Nothing wrong with a Colt Single Action or a .44-40.

i am loving the whole experience of CF-Elite, i prefer engineered metal/plastic and composite material for my handles, however the bone stag handles on some Muela knives are nice

That's a pretty knife there, Herisson. For me, it wouldn't be my first choice for something to carry. But if I was to carry that knife, I'd have to wear my velvet-lined pantaloons so the knife would stay all shiny and nice.
Unfair , insensitive ...and oh so hilarious ! :p:thumbsup:

Never say never, but the chances of me purchasing a knife with wood, bone, or antler scales is close to zero.

FWIW, I prefer Kydex over leather too.
