Does Anyone Like The Old Imperials?

Was just looking on an auction site and there are several imperials on there (including one missing the plastic 'scales') for like $50? All pretty beat. Coincidence?

I see that type of thing quite a bit. I was involved in a thread once about TL-29's and few days later, tons of them were popping up for sale everywhere. Coincidence? I think not...

cheers
Found one like the celluloid knife in this pic in an antique shop in Alameda. Rusty, not as nice as the one shown, but
cleaned up pretty well and holds a great edge. Paid $4 for it.

Sorry it took so long for me to get here...Knife on left only has three sets of numbers printed on the tang, the black scale is a rubber(ized)/ rough plastic material. I enjoy handing one of the magic knives to someone to use and they can't figure out how to open it. Don't do if they are in a hurry or you will be called various body parts. The back knife is stamped Imperial - Ireland, it had cheap scales till Triple R put Axis deer scales on it for me....now I have a $20 knife with $50 scales......(actually was given the knife and the antlers) 300Bucks

I used the search function to get some info on it and found this thread. It looks like there's more to them than I once thought.

Great thread BTW.

That cell is great, Nixelplix! Doesn't look like any shrinkage either. Nice find.

I mainly collect the Frontier series that Imperial put out. I find them to be well made knives (Camillus).

I only have one - a Providence Imperial Diamond Edge jack of some kind with wood pattern shell covers. It was my grandpa's knife; I remember him doing stuff like scraping fouled farm tractor spark plugs with it.

I have that exact knife too! takes a sharp edge. I always thought the scales looked linoleum flooring..I have a bunch of Imperials, I will have to take some photos when I get them out of storage.

They remind me of cork.

It looked like when he needed to sharpen it, grampa just laid it flat against the stone. With my Sharpmaker, I've managed to put a bevel back on it. The main blade is noticeably wobbly, but it's a good little knife.

That looks like the DE 854. See this link for flyer from 1982:

DE series 1982

The steel on those shell handle Imperials is a winner. You can get them super sharp, and they cut like the dickens.
