Does Anyone Need A $475 Boxcutter?

Well, I've got a $150 boxcutter, which doesn't seem like much compared to $475, except that I bought 4 of them.

Very different tool though. The Magnus complements rather than replaces a "regular" knife, and doesn't really replace a Stanley or one of those cheapo folding ones.

I'm going to hold out for their rumored MokuTi butter knife with integral heater.
Dammit! I was trying to beat everyone to market. You just had to ruin my secret plan!
Why would anyone in their right mind want to resell a gem like that? It has heirloom written all over it! That and the fact you'd be admitting to buying it in the first place.
An heirloom embarrassment. Kinda like the kid that runs the family business into the ground. No one can believe it's yours, not even you.

I’m never one to judge, I’ve given up trying to explain to my wife why I “need” an entire closet of knives. That said, my first instinct was this box cutter was a poorly timed April fools joke. Next I tried to convince myself I need it. Yes I have a problem.

Exactly what I thought : we are on the Blade hq april fools territory. I am drooling on G&G designs but this one leaves me totally cold.

Would you rather buy a strong and polyvalent xm-18 or a fancy box cutter ?

I have a feeling when April Fools' posts surface next year the 'box cutter crew' won't know whether to sh!t or go blind...

Speaking of April Fool's jokes, I still want that Kershaw Tactical Tiara.

I still have my "Heirloom" boxcutter from my days in Loss Prevention at the Liquor Distributor... (*I think we got these at $20 per thousand)

When the time is right, I'm offering this in the Exchange for a thousand bucks.

Nobody "needs" a Rockstead, or Medford, or Olamic, or any knife north of say $25-$50 to be honest. A Kabar Dozier or Ontario Rat, a Mora & a 4-5 layer SAK, a 22" Tramontina, a kershaw fillet knife, a Victorinox Chef's and Paring knife, and a Schrade SCHF36 "extreme survival", all combined for less than $200, and if not abused but cared for and used properly, 99% of the population would likely never "need" another knife as long as they lived, as all their potential knife "needs" would be well covered by that combo.
Most people don't "need" a Corvette or a Harley, or that extra back acre on their property and the extra bedroom in their house, or a pool in their yard, or a dog, $200 work boots, $1200 watches, $900 Paul Parkman dress shoes, the appetizers at the restaurant or dessert, another beer or shot at the bar, or all 17 guns in their gun safe..... The shear beauty of it all though, is while the market meets the needs of the people, which is in some cases subjective to each individual, it also exceeds those needs and supplies us with plenty for our wants and desires...

Hawk Knives (G&G Hawk) just announced that it will be producing the "Shortcut" which is bascially a $475 boxcutter.

It is a very well designed $475 boxcutter but my $1 box cutters and $5 utility knives will do me just fine. Thank-you.

I've been waiting for them to start making the MUDD again and now they're doing this? Frankly, I'm really disappointed.

But, if they're charging $1-2k for a Deadlock and $475 for this, I guess I'm not going to be able to afford (or want to pay for) a MUDD if they actually do start making them again.

This makes me regret trading away my MUDD for a BRS Alpha Beast all over again. 😢

Oh well . . . 🤷‍♂️
Well, to the untrained eye, everything from our Spyderco Delicas to Chris Reeve Sebenzas are overpriced box cutters. 😅

I use a $400 plus Microtech mini-Troodon OTF as a daily envelope and box opener. So, hey, it happens. I figure if I have to open stuff, I want something that makes me smile when I use it.

My Carothers DEK1 is my utility knife. I use her for everything.

Realistically, instead of 475 I think I could probably spend 10$ on titanium, make my own fixed blade version and put the rest into knifemaking tools\supplies. 🙂

What exactly will that do that a $29 Buck Slim won't? Asking for a Friend.

*I did see a $465 Microtech (*go figure) "Tactical belt" the other day, and thought, "Nobody is stupid enough to buy one of those." I was wrong.

The easy out answer is, nothing. But the reality, is much more difficult to quantify. Possibly still nothing, I’ve have 500$+ knives that did nothing for me, and they ended up going on down the road to someone else. But I also own knives from 50-$500 that make me happy, they remind me of being a child, of my time in the military, they fidget in my hand just right and I spend hours upon hours flipping them, sharpening them, or truly feeling a sense of gratitude when slicing something open with them. Sometimes a knife just jumps off the screen or page at you and it seems worth the exorbitant amount of money being charged. Sometimes is just purely passion or romance. But I imagine you already know all this lol. Some things don’t make any sense and yet inanimate objects can be “worth” the cost, to each of us for different reasons.
