Does Anyone NOT Like SAK's?

One of the first knives that really made me smile was a SAK my Dad bought me.

I have liked them ever since and find it hard to carry much more than a good and simple SAK.

I gave my last one to my sister before she went overseas to live for a while and have been missing it since. It was a Tinker I paid 12 bucks for at the local hardware store.

I just ordered a black Trailmaster to use as a lightweight EDC and I can't wait until it gets here.

Anyone here not like these things?

I like them OK, particularly the main spear-point flat grind blades. I especially like the new ergonomic handles and locking blades on some of the new models.

But I find the miniature tools, toys, and attachments poor substitutes for the real things. They work in a pinch, but I would never use one by choice. Another gripe about many SAKs, the slippery smooth red handles. In contrast, the BuckSwiss models (now discontinued) had a good slip-resistant surface.

I prefer Leathermans myself. I'm not taking any credit away from SAK's though. Just my preference.

I've done without them for a very long time, and I think I can keep on keeping on.

Hey folks, we have a winner! :D

While they wouldn't be my first choice these days, I do EDC one and have come to appreciate them a lot more in the last little while. I still don't know why Victorinox doesn't put a lock on their mid-size models like some of the Wenger mid-sizes, though.

As soon as I get one of those locking-blade ones, it will definitely beat out my Charge for pocket time. This is due to the light-weight nature of SAKs that I think is one of their best assets. I will want to add a pocket clip though...

That is why I like them too. Sometimes I just don't want to mess with a larger lockback and it is these times a smaller SAK works perfect.

I just bought myself a Trailmaster two days ago. Great knife, very sharp and locks up solid. I hope that you like yours. And watch out for the saw, it too is very sharp and I have a cut on my thumb to prove it.

I think Sal said he didn't like them much.
I like the ones with only a few layers, many of the SAKs are far too big IMO.

I like them and I carry them from time to time. They are great bargains and great cutters. But I have 4 or 5 of them, and that is all I need. Not much desire to buy more.

I personally like mine because they are so streamlined and light that I don't feel I really need a clip. They really do almost disappear in your pocket. Obviously they're not anything that you would choose for a sd weapon, but I like to carry mine with a nice tf. That way, if I just need to cut something simple, in public, no problem. -There may not be a more "excepted" knife in the entire world.
A lock would be cool. I had one a few years ago (mighta been some sorta cheapy) that had a lock. Coulda had LLBean on the blade???

When you've got a folding machete in your pocket, its nice to pull out a SAK for the poor sheeples sake.

The only SAK I've ever carried was their money clip knife. I asked my girlfriend for a money clip for my last bday, and she asked me to pick one out. While browsing I noticed the SAK, and being a knife guy, had to have it.

It serves its purpose as a money clip, I've never used the blade, but I do use the scissors and nail file to cut my nails when I get bored sometimes. I've done some freehand file work to the blade and it looks pretty cool.

I have no use for a full sized, 13 bazillion function SAK however.

I hate 'em. Which explains why my entire knife collection consists of two SAKs and a Schrade. ;)

I've only got one SAK. Its a Soldier model that serves as my "formal" carry knife.
For some reason folks are less apt to gasp at a SAK than a Mini Grip, Spyderco, or other evil black knife when I'm surrouned by other suits.

I do carry a Swiss+Tool when flying as its airport safe. But since it has no blade on it, Its not a real SAK.:p

I don't really not like them, but every one I have owned has blown apart during use.
