Does Anyone NOT Love The Sebenza ?

The high prices on a Hinderer are market-dictated. Rick charges ~395$ for a standard 3.5in XM. The comparison doesn't even work as one price is dictated by the owner and the other price is dictated by the buyer.

At the store I bought my sebenza the hinderer was easily over 800 for the cheaper one....

I had a sebenza, used it, loved it, admired it... but in the end I chose a 943 for a folder. And maybe part of the reason is the AXIS lock, or that the ergonomics of the 943 just suited me better -- I can't really say for sure. I sold my sebenza, kept the 943, and have never looked back. I guess the sebenza is good, for what it is... but I don't prefer it (if that makes any sense).

LOL. Seriously? Yes, I've owned and used Sebenzas. I still own three that have special meaning to me that sit in a drawer all day. They aren't magical and they can't do anything my cheaper knives can't do except for being taken apart easier. My customs costing more than the Sebenza don't do anything that Sebenza or my cheaper knives can't do except look prettier. Well, the edges will last longer than the Sebenza's. Yes, I've used Sebenzas and I find them completely lacking.

Well that's good. Then you have a more objective opinion than several people here, who are basing their opinions from what they have read online.

Though, I don't understand why my question was funny. How was I supposed to infer that you actually owned one (several)? It's hard to assume that you have thousands of dollars of knives, when you don't even have a $10 basic membership to support this site...

At any rate, I am glad you are satisfied with paying $80 for a $40 folder and using it over the last 5 years. Still, it seems odd to me that you can't differentiate between a top end titanium mid-tech, and a plastic handled lockback, but you can notice a large difference in (at MOST) 1 unit of Rockwell hardness. (Even though most sources that tested Spyderco's S30V come between 58-60hrc.)

At any rate, Sebenzas are not for everybody. So what?

Tripton, you and I have been members of this forum for basically the same amount of time. I've read your posts and over the past five years have at least a small idea of your taste in knives. I've posted a ton of pictures of knives I own and just figured you may have taken a slight notice of my taste in the past 5 years as well. I kind of thought you were joking around when you asked if I've ever used or owned a Sebenza. As far as my membership goes, I've been a gold member continuously over the past 4 years, but recently my membership lapsed. I haven't renewed because I haven't really been on the forums much, until recently. I'm not buying, selling, or trading anything at the moment and I feel that perhaps I can just offer some opinions and knowledge without having to pay to do so.

I said it before, I'll say it again, I used my large Classic 2000 to strip wire at work one day and almost the entire edge rolled because of the softness of the steel. I didn't need to compare it to anything else to tell me the steel was soft. The use and resulting roll of the edge proved that it was too soft. None of my other S30V blades have incurred that kind of damage doing the same thing. It sharpened back up easily of course, but of course that's going to be the case with soft steel. I'm not arguing that it's not a nice knife because it is, but I really feel that the steel is just treated too soft. I have no other gripes with the knife. Say what you will, but I experienced it first hand doing something I do on a constant basis with other knives.

Hinderers are fewer and more sought after than are Sebenzas. Any price you see that puts them at 800$ is not Hinderer-set but market set. The price you pay for a Sebenza from CRK has been set by CRK. The price you pay for a Hinderer-unless purchased from him or at a lottery-was set by dealers. The price of a Sebenza vs. the price of a Hinderer argument is a pointless one since the situations aren't nearly the same.

Fair enough.

I apologize for the snarky tone earlier.

You don't know anyone's past or present financial situation. The statement regarding his membership status is absurd and completely irrelevant to the discussion. I have seen posts in the EDC knives thread in which people have Rocksteads, wear Panerais, have Haikus, and still only have a free membership.

Go lay by your dish.

Good retort. I think we are all getting a good picture of the type of person you are. By all means, keep posting so we can see more of your brilliance. Keep digging the hole.

You came to this thread to tell people to not post in this thread...and you are still posting in this thread. And stirring the pot. And doing it for free, I might add.

By all means, step over to W&C and explain to people what type of a person I am.

That is enough digression in this thread for me.

Go lay by your dish.

Drop the elitist BS; last I checked folks didn't have to love Sebenza's or have a paid membership to have an opinion (especially in a thread specifically for people who don't like them).

Since the Sebenza talk seems to have been abandoned in favor of trash-talking each other, I'm closing the thread.
