Does anyone remember a time when they liked Cold Steel knives?

I remember when I liked Cold Steel Knives!! In fact I still like some of them! Shhh.....

My first "good" knife that I purchased was a Carbon V Master Hunter. What a great little knife! That was back in 1990. I still have one of their shovels in the back of both of my vehicles.

My problem with CS is not with their product, although the quality has decreased in some of them.

My problem is with Lynn. At Blade 3-4 years ago they didn't have any regular rooms so I ended up getting a room on the top floor (you have to have a key to get there). You get 3 meals a day for the extra $40.00. So, I was having breakfast when L.T. walks in and grabs some breakfast and sits down right next to me. I say "good morning", and he actually looks at me and then turns away from me and starts eating.... Sorry Lynn, but you lost a customer that day. I will never support your product or buy anymore!! If you can't even be civil enough to say good morning back!!

What a coincidence, the CS Kuhkri I was asking to get the dings out of & had a CS employee blow me off about, was fixed by the knife maker who was ignored by from L.T.

I also met Lynn and his little cultist minnions at a show years ago and went away from that meeting thinking he was Waaaaay too odd. I was with a group of guys from Seal Team One (friends of mine), one of his karate kids picked up a knife and told them, "This is what Navy Seals carry".... could have heard a pin drop. At the time, they were in search of a real Warrior knife maker, Mr. Busse and his knives. We all left with Busse Knives. Still use and own one.

I have never had a bad CS knife. My first was an Urban Skinner that I still have after 22 years. I also have a San mai Tanto and two Voyagers, all great knives.

I love most of my CS knives. The SRK and the Bushman are hard to beat and my Master Hunter is my favority knife up to now. That been said, they make some stuff that I don't like at all, and some overpriced knives. The main reason behind the CS trashers is personal problems with LT. I may be wrong, but IMO saying that a product is bad or inferior becuase you don't like the president of the company is to ignore the merits of the product and judge it on the basis of your emotions, not the facts.

I'm sure ther are people here who have very good and valid reasons not to like CS or LT. There are others who just viserally hate LT, and somehow they feel justified to trash his products independently of the products' merits.

I havea few CS knives & I think they are a good knife for the $$$. I think that the machete lineup they have is awsome, I have the kukri machete & it's one awsome blade ! I also have the PROLITE folder & it's a large knife.

I have read more in more than one thread where someone mentioned that the higher end CS knives are not worth the money or not up to par. I recently got the Caledonian Edge folder, which for $400, but can be found for around $200. The quality on this piece is excellent, lockup is rock solid, fit 'n finish is fnearly flawless. This knife blows away any Benchmade I have in my collection (it cost a little more). The quality on this one is better than the knives I have from Lonewolf. I was a little leary buying this knife based on the posts I read. However, when I realized that most of the people who were knocking the higher end CS knives never even handled one and the people who actually owned them had very favorable reviews the decesion was much easier.

I don't like their marketing or the rubber handles they favour, but I bought a CV Master Hunter at a local gunshop close out sale and I'm quite happy with it.

I would have paid a lot more for the same knife if it had a leather sheath and wood handle.

Somebody should organize a 'chop off' between CS products and the Busse line. That should draw a crowd. I still have two CS Master Hunters in the kitchen and they shave hair easily...the TM (old style) is a great bowie knife and will remain a classic for years to come.

I love my sword cane...............YES, I'm a PIMP :D

and like most of CSs stuff but I don't like any Manufacturers entire line so :jerkit:

Does anyone here like all the stuff one Manufacturer makes?

Well, I can't think of anything in the Spyderco lineup or made by Bark River that I dislike. Some of em aren't to my tastes, but there's nothing in them I find low quality, or badly designed, or ripped off of other products. Fine stuff.

Years ago, around when Busse 1st came out with INFI, Lynn Thompson started putting down Busse knives and saying the Trailmaster with Carbon V was a better knife than the Busse Battle Mistress. Busse & Cold Steel started running ads in the knife magazines taking shots at each other. Finally Mr. Busse just threw down the gauntlet and offered a challenge between the 2 knives. Lynn Thompson did not pick it up.

After the ad campaigns stopped & the frenzy died down the incident faded into history. I remember the BLADE show that year though, and the tension between the 2 was high.

raybateson - My dislike for Cold Steel knives has nothing to do with politics, rather bad customer relations.

I dislike Cold Steel because of how I was treated. Seeing how Lynn Thompson, a purveyor, participated in a smear campaign against Mick Strider, a maker, did nothing to to improve how I felt. That said, I don't care if someone else likes & uses their knives. My reasons are personal and I feel no need to force them on others.

I've got 2 CS knives. A Pendelton Mini-Hunter and a TFT. I re-ground the true flight thrower and it makes a good chopper. I'd like to buy another to use as an actual thrower, but I wonder if they're still made in USA? Are the new TFT carbon knives still made in USA?

I called them the other day and requested that they bring back the mini Tanto, Anyone remember that? Sometimes I think I'm crazy or getting old, probably both, but whenever I mention an outdated knife to the folks at CS Special Projects they have no clue. Thye should give all employees a thorugh history of the company and its products before they hire. Am I crazy or didn't all the old Tantos have a brass finger guard and pommel? I'm certauin they did but was told by a snot at CS that no they never made them that way. Probably wasn't born.

YES! The Mini-Tanto kicked ass, and the old Tantos all had brass fittings.
CS snot was probably some 18 year old know-it-all(they ALWAYS know more than any doctor, black belt, mechanic, lawyer, etc.)

I like the original style Bushman. Very useful knife that doesn't cost much. - - Thats all that I can think of that I would buy made by them now. - - -

i used to love em'! but then i got tired of listening to L.T. bash all the other brands while bragging to no end about how tough his knives were and how they held a fantastic edge. well,,,tough, yes. edge holding was,,, ummm,,kinda disappointing. i had a carbon v master hunter that came scary sharp new but dulled rather quickly while skinning a deer. at the same time i had a buck knife, the model 102 woodsman if i remember correctly, that would skin an entire deer and still shave hair. so the edge holding bragg was B.S. then i bought a trailmaster. tough as heck. chopped well. but, the kraton handle was starting to show bad signs of wear with very little use. it was then i realized that cold steels were no better than any of the other brands. strong in some areas, weak in others. then the final straw for me, being a victorinox sak fan, Mr. Thompson began selling in his catalog a china made sak knock off for around 13.00 each, the same ones selling at every flea market in america for a dollar each, and claiming these were as good or better than the originals, victorinox and wengers. and stating the originals were over priced and over rated. now that was just plain B.S. why start bashing the sak companies? i guess i just got fed up with Mr. Thompsons lies and attitude. and that is why i no longer own any cold steels.,,,VWB.
