Does anyone USE Medford knives?? Please share your MKT user pics, reviews, vids...!

I found a distributor with an array of Medfords currently available, settled on the Praetorian, and took delivery just recently. Like so many other blades in my collection it's enlightening to experience first-hand the rumors, criticisms, and accolades attributed to these blades after much research.

Upon first inspection, like many others have observed, this is a big knife. It dwarfs many of the prominent folders on the market today and pictures usually don't encapsulate this size difference. The Praetorian has a 3.75 blade, yet due to the handle configuration when held and height dimensions, it feels and looks as if you're holding a 4"-4.25" chopper.

HurricaneDiesel was correct in stating that Medford Knives, at least with my sample, comes with a very nice fine-edge that slices standard 8.5/11" paper with ease. This is my first D2 blade and must reserve comment on how well it hones an edge against stones.

The Praetorian is solid, as in there is no blade play/movement period! The blade remains steadfast in the open/locked position despite any attempt to torque the blade by hand with moderate-high force by hand thus mimicking the rigidity of a fixed-blade knife. Very reassuring.

The lock, which I inquired about earlier, developed some stick after a few hours of break-in. A touch of graphite to the tang has resolved the issue for now, but my aim is for this lock-stick to permanently reside without the use of graphite after the proper break-in period has concluded.

I fall into the camp that likes the new pocket clip design. The solid 3D clip with 1 screw is a good fit with the Praetorian T. The only complaint I can voice is that it's difficult to slip in the pocket due to the rigidity of the clip. The alternative benefit to this is that the knife won't pop out of your pocket easily when on the "move" which some of us engage in with our professions and/or hobbies. This feature is more of a plus than a negative for my needs.

All-in-all, the oddity of the Praetorian combined with its stoutness make it an attractive addition to someone's collection. It's a solid knife for sure. The only question for each individual is if its convenient to carry such a beefy folder. It works for my situation.

Nice write up, and after reading it and chicking your pics I can honestly say...... I still really like the Kwaiback. :D;):D

I have a few Medford knives and EDC my 187DP. Like a previous poster (Dean, I believe), I re-profiled and, honestly, haven't had any issues. Obviously, I EDC this one mainly because it's $500 cheaper than each of my other two. However, it sees much use on a daily basis, everything from around work/ house tasks to bushcraft work. It even replaced an old ZT to make a feat her stick before starting a fire in the pit. Keep in mind, they only come in D2 but, it seems to hold and edge well enough for me. I'm more partial to the S35VN on my Praetorian yet, it's too wide to EDC, IMO. I hardly notice it in my Carhartt work pants and definitely notice it more in jeans, sweats or hiking pants. Action has always been smooth and solid, with about 10-12% lock up. I always two hand open/ close the knife, like Greg does. First few times I wanted to just hard flick it open but, got used to it and still never have. She always seems to get dirt round the thrust washers so, I usually give it a quick hit with the compressor. All in all, I've been very pleased with its fit and function into my daily tasks. The only thing I'd like to change is the G10 over to full titanium. I emailed one day to see if they could make me one. Sadly, I was quickly, and politely, denied. Still on the hunt for a damn TFF-3 in all titanium. Just my 2 cents...Enjoy your Medford, sir!

I edc a 187 dpt. I'm partial to large knives and have larger hands so maybe that makes me an outlier but the 187 is doing just fine in my pocket. I posted a thread about it when I got it and there was some weird hate that came out. Apparently Greg's designs are polarizing. That being said, my knife locks up the best of any I've ever handled and cuts everything I need it to. I don't abuse anything I own because I can't afford to run around replacing stuff but based on my experience thus far, I would have no qualms if this is the folder I had in my pocket when things go sideways.

Normally my Praetorian is a letter opener/desk ornament but I have carried it into the woods for bamboo stalk collection. Inside waistband carry was perfectly comfortable and the thick, heavy blade easily chopped to length .75-1.25" diameter dry bamboo. As a conservation measure I forage only stalks that are already on the ground, usually broken by other less careful hikers. Dry bamboo is very hard to cut compared to green and after such use the edge doesn't slice phone book paper quite as well but just a strop on the back of a yellow legal pad brought it back like new. I don't understand people slamming the knife for not slicing tomatoes etc., I have a KAI chef's knife for that.

I do. Mine is perfect and doesn't have any of the issues others report (thankfully). Broke down a bunch of big boxes I had in the garage with mine yesterday, still shaving sharp when I was done:

I have a 187DP (Vulcan Finish, Coyote G10), as well as a 187RMP (Vulcan, OD G10) and I use both! I tend to be harder on the 187DP, and because of the price I definitely don't get too wild with either of them...but I have split some wood, and never hesitate to bury it deep in cardboard when opening boxes at work! My 187 DP took what seemed like forever to break in (concerning the sticky lock) but she works great now, and I have definitely shown her some abuse!

Follow-up: The sticky lock on my Praetorian T has waxed and waned over the last few weeks, but has finally subsided. I think "break-in" has finally come to fruition. Since the lock now works to my satisfaction, I was willing to trust Medford K&T once more by pulling the trigger on a TFF-1. In a few days, I'll put the TFF-1 against the Praetorian. The loser will likely be sold.

Man I love that knife!!!

Just received a couple of Medfords....

Look at that polished bronze spin on the all-titanium TFF1! You can also see the new screw configuration that Medford will begin using on his knives.

that's a great looking set of Tff-1s. I still love mine. The action is smooth as glass and no lock stick or blade play.

This is because the maker doesn't even carry knives, apparently he just likes making them. He says it himself in a video:rolleyes:

So how would you expect him to make anything even remotely functional? It's like a sci fi nerd designing a NASA spacecraft.
I know its old one but
Furthest from the truth!! To say they are not well designed lol is like saying Mr. Strider got his design from the battle field or maybe all those hitman mission he did! #StriderIsTheBrainWillaimsOfKnifeMakers

Medford said it himself. He doesn't carry or use knives.
