Does anyone USE Medford knives?? Please share your MKT user pics, reviews, vids...!

D2 is cheap.

D2 is on the cheaper side of knife steels. I would not spend too much on D2. I own an Adamas that's about it. But from what I understand Greg has the heat treatment down pat for D2. I am an CPM S30V of S35 VN guy

when I got (more seriously) into knives about 5 years ago, I remember I told myself I would never own a Sebenza because I had heard so many stories about people meeting Chris Reeve, and him being a total arrogant jerk. I also told myself I would never buy this or that etc, based on the superficial personal qualities of the knifemaker/manufacturer.

I have since realized that I could probably find a reason to dislike just about anyone if I spent enough time with them, and decided to just buy what I like. Chris Reeve may be an arrogant jerk (allegedly) but who cares! He makes a killer knife! Greg Medford may be a bigoted racist, but I don't care! I like the knives that he produces, I like that they are made in the USA by hard working Americans, and I respect the fact that he speaks his mind.

I also respect people's ability to boycott, or choose to not support a certain person/company. I have been militant with that stuff in the past, and for me at least, it's better to not worry so much! I love my Medfords, and my Sebenzas and would never give em up!

I've just recently become interested in Medford knives. These things look like they can take you to hell and back again without breaking a sweat. Just awesome. I think they're beautiful too. I think I'll pick up a new Ti Praetorian as soon as I can convince myself of the price tag. I want one.

I've had two medford knives, a 187rmp and a tff1. Used the crap out of both of them. Both were built like tanks, I think I like the 187 more, I wish that the tff1 had thicker handle slabs as I found it a bit thin.
My other criticism is that I wish they were offered with a ffg. I found that the shallow hollow grind sometimes hung up on cuts and the tip was quite fragile.
Review of the 187 here if anyone is interested http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/printthread.php?t=1383457&pp=20&page=1

I bought a Micro Praetorian a few months back after falling in love with the design. I opted for the Micro since I couldn't see carrying the Praetorian comfortably. When it arrived, I was impressed more with the packaging than the knife.

For a retail price of $600, I would expect the knife to be flawless. The G10 handle has tool marks near the glass-break. It looks like the bit used for cutting the handles was off slightly and caused an imperfect handle. All other photos of Micro Prae's I've seen don't have these marks, maybe I got unlucky. Call my picky, but my $450 Sebenza is absolutely perfect.

The factory edge was awful. Near the choil is a visible flat spot that's very noticeable. How did this pass through "3 separate inspections" ? I ended up taking it to a professional sharpener to reprofile the edge. It's now a decent cutter but still not the best by any means.

The pocket clip is ungodly stiff. I have to use both hands to put it back in my pocket- one to spread the clip and hold the knife, the other to keep my pocket straight.

My final gripe is with the warranty. MKT voids the warranty if you disassemble any of their knives. I'm sure they have their reasons for not wanting them to be "user serviceable" but that's a major negative in my book. And they require special tools to take apart so that's no fun.

Its not part of my daily carry rotation, and mainly sits in the drawer. It doesn't do well with my daily carry but that's just my lifestyle. If you were out in the bush every day then maybe this will suit your needs better. I've tried to sell it but no one was interested.

It did eventually "break in" nicely and smooth out over time. The lockup feels solid, but for the price I feel there is better out there. The fit and finish overall is lacking. I wanted to love this knife, and still love the way it looks. Unfortunately it serves me better as a piece of art then a cutting tool.

I recently traded for a MKT Praetorian T. I have been considering doing a table top review. I am going to give it a little more time and use.

I am looking at purchasing my first CRK in the near future. I am excited about it.

Any update? Still like it?

Skip ahead to 3:30 if you don't want to watch the rest.

"I don't collect any. I don't have any. I don't even carry knives. I just LOVE making them."

That was the case in 2013 when that was filmed, since then he is always seen carrying. Funny Sht though, odd thing to say for a knife maker I agree.

Okay so I ordered a knife from MKT direct. My confirmation said that there is a 5 month plus wait. OW. (I ordered a production scout) What is the actual wait people have experienced, my hope is that the 5 month quote is a widow to buy them time but not that actual shipping date expectation. I'll admit that having to wait that long causes a hit on my excitement level. . . .

Old thread, but I bought a Praetorian this week from a retailer. Looking forward to getting it in a few days.

Why would you wait 5 months for a knife? Didn’t any retailer have stock of what you wanted?

I have waited a year for a bass guitar (twice), but I wouldn’t wait more than a month or two for a custom knife...

Grays on your Praetorian! Ye the one I wanted was the Praetorian scout m/p.
5 months thought.....
I almost want to buy a proxima so I have something to play with while I wait ;-)

I just got a wicked sweet nearly new Medford 187 DP delivered today (gracias BF!) and it will make an awesome camping & car knife!

All of the Medfords that I see posted for discussion and/or discussion appear LNIB, and I'm unable to find videos or reviews by anyone other that MKT. Does anyone actually use and enjoy these beasty knives, or are they mostly collected and admired? Please share your reviews, hard-use pics, or videos PLEASE!

No need to bash them if you don't dig em- I have found plenty of that sort of review thanks.

My 100th post!:D
Yeah if I need a crow bar.lol

Great owners
Great company
Great product
Amercia needs more such innovators.

I own 5. One was a little tight to lock up. I will wait a few weeks to see if it breaks in before returning it for repairs.
They are functional, innovative, beautiful, a fabulous investment, creative, extremely well made and gloriously high priced.
I love Chirs Reeve knives also but think what Chris Reeve could have done were it operated with the creativity of Medford.
They are the ultimate self defense knife.

They are like a Rolex watch of the 1960s which were considered big, overpriced and clunky. Then they sold for $750.00 now they sell for $11,500.00.

You will be able to sell, even with moderate but careful use, your knife for at least 90% of what you paid for it or more after a year or more use.
