I use mine, don't see a point in having one that I can't use, the first sprint that I'll actually get 2 of is the Bladeforums Skyline, but I may swap out some stuff with another skyline so both will get used.

I use the ones I really like. The ones I don't I collect and sometimes trade them off. Even if some go up in price you never know which ones. I'm sure if I sold off my collection I would be lucky to break even. Some go up and some go down.

I don't see the Ares going up in value much. If I remember correctly it has been out a while and is still available. The ones that sell out in a week, months before they are released have a greater chance of going up in value. If you like the knife I say use it so you can appreciate the design and the fancy steel that makes it limited. Using it is the only way to see how the steel performs compared to an average steel. I like how many of the 'super' steels hold an edge and many seem to get sharper if you have the right equipment.

Since I only buy orange, almost all of my knives are sprint runs/LEs and I have no problem carrying them. There are some that stay in the safe, but my orange Kershaw Blur/Skyline/Tyrade/Zing and orange Spyderco Manix2/Military/PM2 all get used frequently.

Know if only they made some in burnt orange... ;)

Thanks for the response guys, I tried to talk my self out of using it (even though I really want to) and just can't. I doubt this single knife would skyrocket in price and make me rich.

The only production knives I buy anymore are sprint runs / limited editions - and they all get used. The justification is that usually these runs use a steel that isn't readily available on the market, in the format I want it in (BG-42 and CPM-M4 are both good examples used in the past for the Spyderco Military).

I can get a regular production knife any day of the week - just pull up your favorite knife vendor and click the BUY button.

Wanted a Strider for years, but didn't want S30V. Waited until the recent run of knives in CPM-154 and I couldn't be happier. Patience and extra bank funds are all that's required. The sprints and limited runs are a little more difficult to track down after they're sold out - secondary market prices and all. 2/3rds of my carry/EDC knives are limited runs - and I enjoy the hell out of using them. :)

(Knives are tools - buy them to use them. You don't have a hammer and wood saw in your gun safe, do you?)

I use mine for throwing knife practice. Still can't get my knives to stick into the stucco wall.
I'll keep on throwin'

I have two limited edition knives I carry about once a week. Too nice to sit in a safe and not be used.

I'm currently using my Spyderco CTS-XHP Para as my primary roofing blade.

I get collecting, I've got a decent sized collection. I'm not however a dealer or flipper. I'm a user.

my basic premise is this: the longer you keep sprints, the more they are worth... and the more you use them, the less they are worth. this means that holding onto them while using them will keep the net value close to the same in the future. you won't make a ton of money selling them down the road, but you won't lose a lot either.

Almost every pocket knife that I have left is some limited or special version of a regular production knife... I just enjoy the variety in colors, materials and steels that are available :) and I use them all no matter what they cost or how much I could get for them, that's never the point ;)

Was previously searching for an M390 blue Para2, and then finally found one for sale NIB for only $200 (as I was not going to pay the $300 they were going for on ebay)

The minute I opened it, I threw it on the stones to put a real edge on and started using it immediately. My personal satisfaction with knives comes out of using, sharpening and maintaining them.

I can understand that people are collectors, but how can you just let something sit in the box without even trying it out?? (unless your intention was just to make a buck). And we are only talking a few hundred dollars at the very most here...I know many kitchen knife guys who don't mind using their $2,000+ gyutos or yanagibas on a daily basis without babying them at all.

I have a "pre-production" CRKT Foresight that I carry as my EDC.

I have a user Ti Tyrade, a user Purple Blur, a user Grey Blur and a user Damascus Scallion ...so yeah I use my LE knives

I use my Chris reeve limited Sebenza. I get lots of compliments on it, people are always asking to see it when I take it out. For me, that adds to its value more than sitting in a safe for years. If I don't use a knife, I will sell it!

Here's a pic with what shows pretty much my user folders, missing from it are a few including a frankenmilitary in M390 + titanium and a ti-zdp kershaw leek that I just got the other day. Patiently waiting for Farid's K2 in REX121, which I know I'm gonna love carrying. Life's too short not to enjoy all your toys.

I only own a couple of sprint runs. I carry them on occasion, but rarely use them. I think i'm going to sell them in the future and buy the regular versions.

I have carried a few LE's but didnt use them. At this point I can use my ZT0301 and dont need the LE's. I will have a new Offset user tomorrow which I am really looking forward to and am looking for a Spec bump to carry since i live my speedbump so much.
