Does anyone use their limited edition/sprint run knives?

Do you use your LE knives?

I have 4 sprint millies and 4 sprint p2s that get carried all the time. Some get carried more than others but they all see action. When I first started buying sprints I had a hard time using them but I finally realized that if I wasn't going to use them I should pass them along to someone else.

It depends.

Is it likely to gain enough value to make the work worth the effort? If yes I'll buy and store. If no, then I'll just buy what I need for my personal use.

It's a value proposition. Is the value in making me more money, or is the value in being a too? It really just depends.

All my LE's go to one of the Safes to be looked at every once in a while as I have so many others to choose from so why use those that will go up in value as time goes on.? I have to many to choose from and so little time to use them that it also keeps me from using the LE's 99 9/10's of the time and thus makes money in the long run.! Not much but enough not to use them.** lol

My LE's stay new for me. Not for the value in the future, but because I like a BNIB specimen I can admire.

My user LE got to work today!

2 orange Militaries, D2 Paramilitary, M390 mini grip. All users and top 5 of my rotation.

Yes, I use all my knives except my auto's and that is only becouse it is illegal for me to take them out of the house.

I buy them to use them, but I'm talking things like Spyderco Militarys and Para-Military2s and Mules (think steels). I don't go after all the other stuff unless it's something I really like. Not into flipping for profit yet. Maybe someday, but I'm not saving up for a Hinderer or some custom. I like to keep it sane and simple.

my CPM M4 Spyderco Military is my most used knife. Hell, the blade currently has had some red rust spots on the side of the blade for about a week because I didn't wipe it down enough after lunch... no hurry to clean it off. Won't cause any harm.

No point owning a knife you won't use unless there is some real sentimental value. Or you are doing it just for a profit.

When you only you use your knives lightly, it's a lot easier to justify carrying sprints. My CTS-XHP Para 2 gets carried very often and is a bit scratched, but nothing too bad. I carried my original Elmax 0350CB as well, and now I'm even occasionally carrying my SHOT Show Mini Onslaught, although that one I am quite reluctant to use seriously.

NewB question, please explain "sprint". I gather that it is limited run, is that all it means?

Heh, I think I actually own your old 0350cb now. I've already carried it since I got it, awesome knife.

No way! That's so cool, is it serial 0751? I'm glad it's still in the community and has a great home (especially among that company!), the amusing thing is that the orange Para 2 I just posted about is what I traded the 0350CB for in the first place. That 0350CB is meant to be carried, the nice thing is that the G10 is all worn from carrying so subconsciously it feels acceptable to carry it, but at the same time the blade has seen such little use that it will still last for years to come.

Yep that's the one! I can assure you it's in good hands :) and probably will be for a long time.

I ride the fence on this issue. I do some collecting but I also want to use my knives so if there is a sprint/LE/discontinued knife I really want to use I try to buy 2 or more and make one a user otherwise it will likely end up as a safe queen. I hunt for a user in the exchange or on ebay before I turn a NIB into a user, not only because it's cheaper but also because it makes it easier for me to start using it that way. If I buy 2 NIB and 1 user I'm good to go because I can put 1 in the safe, use 1 and sell 1 down the road and sometimes cover my investment in the 2 keepers. I'm carrying a Manix 2 M390 today, carried a Para 2 S35V yesterday, an Orange Dodo a few days ago and prepped dinner last night with an M390 Mule all I picked up as users. So yes I use LE/Sprint/Discontinued knives but do so in most cases only when I have another.
