A couple of weeks ago I picked up a Leek at a reasonable sale price as a impulse buy.
Was not home two hours when wife asked me what new knife I bought? , while on the road. ( a typically am gone 3 or 4 nights each week).
I told her it was on sale and it had a blade I liked. Then asked how she knew since I had not unpacked the suit case yet?

She grapped my arm, feel the bare skin, and said it is freshly shaved, figured you were checking sharpness of a new blade!

Can not get much by her...

Yup!!!
When I come home with flowers she asks when am I expecting a new blade!

Haha nice. I bought a new one last night online and I was going to wait for the talk when it came but I just told her. I think it goes smoother when you're upfront.

Nope. No sneaky-sneaky for me. She's a psycho about the budget. So when I want a new knife I let her know well in advance.

Granted I've essentially stopped buying production knives, and am strictly getting customs built. So being on a makers books works for me. She has time to allocate the funds, and I get a really freakin' cool new knife.

I make the money...I buy what I want. Of course she gets whatever she wants also. She doesn't question my purchases unless she's asking what packages need signed for that week [emoji10].

Of course she knows.

When we got married we said in general we discuss large purchases before we buy them (arbitrary definition of anything > $50-100 as "large"). However, 99% of the time we both know what is being purchased. The only time that comes to mind where that is not the case, is when we're buying gifts for birthdays/Christmas/etc.

I don't hide it, but I limit my own purchases and don't ask when I see something I want or want to try. If she asks, I tell her. If she doesn't.....well....

I tell her when I buy a lower priced knife from an estate sale or flea market. If it cost a little something, well I don't bring it up. ;). But with a son in college and daughter in high school that doesn't happen much.

I read this on a gun forum but I think it pertains to knives as well!
" my biggest fear about dying is that my wife sells my knives for what I told her they cost"

Probably better than giving them away, right?

She generally knows. She sees the UPS truck. But I generally have a lot of business stuff delivered too. ;)

Or you could just get a PO box...
I used to order my stuff and have them delivered at work. And no one messes with a knife guy ;)

I bought an alox SAK classic. Really cute little knife. My wife kept it. You don't need this one.

I have a budget for myself, and I don't let myself break it. It is the only way I can justify so many luxury items on a government salary. First comes my church donations, then to my retirement account, then clothes for the kids and furniture and other family and home expenses.

I give myself a reasonable monthly allotment after that so I can bbuy absurdly priced knives and flashlights, and knowing that I earned the money out of responsibly allocated funds means all my CRKs and McGizmos can be heavy users.

I am fresh broke right now cause I just bought a Mnandi and McGizmo Sapphire, and they are beautiful. So, yes, she knows and it is all fine. She always knows what to get me for birthdays and Christmas, too.

Separate checking accounts, trust and responsibility goes a long way. No explanations are asked for, nor given. My wife buys what she wants and I buy what I want, it's a nonissue. I know some guys are completely irresponsible with money and will spend their entire check on whatever "shiny" catches their eye. While others are stuck in a partnership with a woman that wants to have absolute and total control of their husband's money. I had friends like this. I say, had because they were soon not allowed to hang around with normal free thinking people. Friends also had to be prescreened and approved at that point.
