Does BUCK make BIG "Choppers"?

I like Buck's fixed blades. The biggest FB I have from Buck is the 119.

So,My question is "Does Buck make a 7"-10" bladed heavy chopper/bowie type knife?"

No need for super steels,Their 420HC is just fine by me.;)

Please post pics if ya gottem'

Thanks :)

The 651 Intruder Pig Sticker blade is right at 8 inches. Spine is right at 1/4 inch thick, Rubber grip handle.
OAL is 13 inches, and 420HC.

But it is more of a spear point. Definitely not a clip. But do you really want a clip blade as a chopper? Just curious.

Remind me if no one pops in with a pic.

The 651 Pig Sticker is the top knife, 187 Intrepid is the bottom knife.

Here's ya a comparison of some of Bucks large ones.

The one on the far left doesn't really count as it is from the Empress Trio set and I just tossed it in to show the length of that thing.

Next to it is the 651, then a Nighthawk 650, A 124, 120, 119, and then a Kalinga and an Akonua.

Notice the hand grips of the 119 and 120 versus the larger ones.

The Kalinga and Akonua are large knives, so maybe gives some perspective

Thanks Pack Rat,
Now that you mention it,I'm probably better off with a drop or spear point for a big knife.

That 651 is impressive.I have my sights set on the 124 for now though.

Thanks again everyone.

You can't go wrong with a 124 for a big chopper IMO. One note: to my eye the 70's knife with micarta handles is a slightly bigger knife than the Limited Editions that were made after the knife was canceled as a catolog item. If you find a micarta knife in a two piece yellow box it's also likely a 440C blade which is a plus but a 80's knife in 425M is a great one too.

Anyway the micarta one's would be my 1st choice and since you looking for a user and not a collector you should have some luck over on that auction site. Good Luck.

That strikes a chord...Weren't the last of the 124's made with 119/120 1-piece phenolic grips??? That were shorter than the early 124's??? And without the full-width haft...

Trax,

I don't know how the last one got made, I just remember seeing JB's collection (I think JB's) and some side by side photos and the new one looked like 9/10th size knives. I was noticable to me at least.

According to the catalogs up to and including 1984 the 124 had a 7" blade. Beginning in 1985 and thereafter it's listed as a 6 3/4" blade. Wonder why they shortened it 1/4"

I reallllllly like the 651! I would buy a bigger, longer, blade Buck if they made one...I play pirate with mine.I don't NEED a knife that big,but it sure feels good in your hand....I FEEL EMPOWERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Gordon,

You are thinging of Ron's and Jerry's 124 collections....They are Sweet. I have a few 124's but nothing like they have. Maybe they will see this and post a photo of that wonderful table full of 124's:D

JB,

It was probably Ron's. I'm not sure I've looked at Jerry's collection but I have perused Ron's. You three have "Hall of Fame Buck Collections."

For the O.P.:
Here are a few of my Buck Choppers. The one on the bottom (of first picture) is as big and heavy as it looks. I suspect you'd have to upgrade to an ax to do any better "chopping" :)

Thanks, but in reality, thats about the sum of my big Bucks. Those are the only 124 and 120 I have and are in that 10 piece set. Do have a few other 119's and maybe an extra pig stick. Those just seem to have showed up along the way.

Who says my accumulation isn't eclectic.

Thanks for the kind words Gordon. But, my collection of Buck knives is not near the caliber of Ron's or Jerry's. My wife would be the first to tell you I have more knives than I need. I have a few of several different models...I wish I had focus for just one model. However, I seem to like them all. I enjoy the hunt for the next knife that can catch my eye and enjoy chatting about knives with the folks here on the Buck forum.

I'm torn about my Pigsticker....It's for sure a collectable Buck but picture it with a mirror polished blade, the false edge razor sharp, the handle rough textured and all black [or stag Armand !!!] maybe reconfigure the blade to have more of a needle sharp point and with just a little engraving.....WHAT A FIGHTER! That would be better than just letting it sit in the box...For someone to have one day.

you dreamer you
did you know that a MP one already exists!
humm
xd guys do you have a pict you can post of a shiny pigsticker?

Did Joe make/do one up? I remember he customised a big one last year...I dont remember the model number....
