You can't go wrong with a 124 for a big chopper IMO. One note: to my eye the 70's knife with micarta handles is a slightly bigger knife than the Limited Editions that were made after the knife was canceled as a catolog item. If you find a micarta knife in a two piece yellow box it's also likely a 440C blade which is a plus but a 80's knife in 425M is a great one too.

Gordon,I have both of the models you speak of and there is a difference.The 1970's 124 is more knife.I did use the 1993 one and it works fine.They changed little things in the grind by then and made it more conducive for cutting.DM
