Does EDC actually mean Every Day Carry?

You keep saying, “if a man had his pants on.” These days, many do not (literally or figuratively).

EDC means everyday carry, yet who here actually has just one knife they carry every day? Like most guys on here I have a selection of knives to choose from, yet I don’t carry any of them “every day”.
So I generally say everyday I carry a knife, but I don’t carry (insert brand here) everyday.
A pocket knife is part of my Every Day Carry.
I don't carry the same pocket knife every day.
You can EDC a rotation of different knives. Just so long as you carry A knife every day, you can say you EDC a knife. Or you can say a particular knife in the rotation is part of your EDC.

The only time you can bust someone on the semantics is if they claim "This is my EDC knife".

For me, EDC means a fixed blade, and I buy carry knives for long term. Generally at least a couple of years. In that time, they are carried every day. A couple of years ago, after a couple of more years of putting it off, I bought a Sendero Classic, from White River Knife and Tool. Four and a half inches of thin, flat-ground, S35VN. In my neck of the woods, it doesn't raise any eyebrows. I bought it in hopes that it would become like part of my hand. Mission accomplished! This one doesn't get babied, it's a working knife. Handy in the kitchen, too. Just bought another one.

I do carry a folder every day, as well. This one changes according to my mood, or needs. But, it is most certainly just a back-up to the Sendero. My favorite in this role is the Kershaw Shallot, with composite ZDP-189 blade. That was carried every day for 8 years. Now, it trades off that spot with a Kershaw Launch 8, or a Ruike P-108, most days. Or one of several others....

I actually EDC three knives, four if you count the butter knife in my Snow Peak titanium flatware set. This has been part of my EDC for at least a decade.
1. Victorinox Rambler (my most-used knife)
2. Gerber Harsey AirFrame
3. Buck Diamondback fixed blade (bought it at a local hardware store on a whim, because it was $25. This is my lunch prep knife, for cutting crusty baguettes and such.)

I carry a full set of titanium flatware, including the Snow Peak SCT-001 knife/fork/spoon set and SCT-004 spork, in the case that comes with the SCT-001 (you can squeeze the spork in with the others easily), plus a pair of Keith Titanium solid chopsticks.

I used to be more of a stickler for the semantics of what means, (1 knife every day is an EDC knife), but today, a little bit older, I'm now in the group of;
EDC = I do carry a knife every day

So with a wide selection of knives, many fall into my "EDC rotation" of the knives I regularly carry every day...

Then there are the more specifics like: my suit & tie knife, my fancy-casual out to eat with the wife knife, my cheap yard beater I could care less about whether it breaks or gets massively scuffed up, my truck knife, etc.

Count me in the camp of EDC as a lifestyle comprising certain categories that are on me every single day, although which piece of my collection is on me on a given day changes.

For example, these things are on my person if I'm out of bed.
-knife
-flashlight
-pistol
-backup mag.
Yes, even lounging on my couch in basketball shorts, these 4 things are always on me. There's a few other pieces that go when I leave the house
-phone
-wallet
-keys
-watch
-handkerchief
-extra knife
-SAK nail clipper
-and sometimes a second backup mag.
Many of these items get used rarely. One, for everyday, hasn't been needed at all, although I still regularly train with it.

As far as EDC, what changes is which knife, which watch, sometimes which pistol, but the core categories are always covered.

Guys who carry an extra mag are on the next level of preparedness.

I described my list earlier. It's a lot of stuff. My "EDC" pry bar rarely makes it into my actual carry and the whole category is still in question for me. An extra magazine is bigger and heavier. Of course, magazines often have their own dedicated carry method. They often have their own holster or a shared spot alongside the gun's holster. Lately, I see more guys doing the combined IWB up front as AIWB or "appendix". How do you carry that kind of stuff?

Most of the time, I just carry a revolver. Some of the guys at the club joke about it. It's funny how carrying a six-shooter in 2021 can seem extreme to some people and woefully inadequate to others. 🤠

In general it’s very sufficient to carry revolver… You need decent holster. The downside is that the reloads are bulkier than mags, if you elect to carry those…
Appendix can be very fast draw if you learn it… I went through few holsters, now I only carry it with the “minimalist” holster, very effective and fast IMO. You loop the other end of the Paracord to the belt loop on your strong site and tuck the gun wherever it doesn’t press too much on your “package”
Draw your shirt up and draw the gun, string pulls the “holster” just when muzzle clears your pants, works very well for me. This way I’m good from buzzer to Alpha, 7 yards, usually under 2seconds. Timer is a must if you want to be effective, I think.

Pistol is IWB. Front stronghold pocket is large clipped knife, small Sebenza 21 in a leather sheath without clip, and handkerchief. Weak side front pocket is small nail clipper Swiss Army, money clip, flashlight, and spare mag. I use the pocket mag holster from Elite tactical systems. Wallet goes in off hand back pocket, cell phone in other back pocket. I can't stand keys in the pockets, so they get clipped to a belt loop. My holster is tuckable, so I can have a tucked in shirt, and nothing but my knife clip and holster clips on the belt are visible. It's a good set up for me.
