Does EDC actually mean Every Day Carry?

Since everyone's day is different, depending on profession and lifestyle, I'd say the term is wholly subjective as to design. A fisherman's EDC will look different from mine, but so long as the knife is purposed to the task required on the daily, it qualifies.

That said, this is my literal EDC. The blade is by Dylan Farnham. It's good for everything and fits discreetly in my waistband.

Woah!!! That blade is awesome. Got my motor goin’. Haha. Very cool.

I hope you haven't trademarked this phrase! 🤣

It's so true, and yet some of us still get the involuntary eye twitches when people use it "wrong" just the same!
Heck, that phrase isn't even mine, originally. I believe I'm paraphrasing a tweet I saw somewhere. I used to get the eye twitch a lot worse, but I've largely tried to suppress it as I figured it was bothering me much more than anyone else.

I drink too much coffee to suppress it...

Do you also EDC that interesting pistol and brass knuckles (or whatever the skull thing is ) ? ;)

EDC means Every Day Carry that can be used for self defense should the need arise, to me. I EDC four different types of knives but my main EDC Is a fixed blade. That's not counting a handgun.
:)That's what it meant at the start , but it's used different now .

It used to indicate a serious commitment to actually carry your core SD weapons almost all the time , not just have them in a safe or stashed somewhere else except on your person .

Now it can refer to almost anything that might be carried routinely . The term has been co-opted and deweaponized !

Yeah but not everyone is Tarzan for a living. ;)
That preference even predates my time in tree care. I might actually appreciate clips more were I to go about business in a loin cloth but I don't think we'd be doing business for very long.

No, and for good reason... but at least you'd be comfortable, at least part of the year. 🤷‍♂️

I honestly don’t care if others butcher English. I just care if I’m butchering it. I also try not to swear.

My education was not the best and I don’t want to be judged. I usually edit my posts at least a few times.

This post could have just as easily been one of mine. Of course, I get the benefit of silent edits so nobody but other mods can see how many typos my posts had "6 minutes ago". 🤣

EDC is a practice not a brand or model. I carry a knife every day.
I agree- I carry a knife every day, and I choose from a group of about 6 that I rotate through so that all of them get carried and used. Therefore I have about 6 EDC knives. A safe queen can't be an EDC, a knife that is in your collection that isn't used regularly can't be an EDC.

for me it has evolved to carrying a certain style of knife.

I do switch for different situations like fishing , hunting etc but my edc can be the same for extended times with in a certain genre of knives

I’ve pretty much narrowed my carry to fixed blades with 3 1/4 ish blades carried horizontally cross draw in either a Kaiden style or wharncliffe style

these two get the lions share of carry for the last 5 years or so

I like how it has been suggested that EDC is a practice carrying a knife everyday rather than just using the same knife day to day.

I started to go hunting with my father in 1973 at age 14, I carried a fixed blade on my belt.
A few years later I had a revelation.... if I bought a pocket knife , I could carry it everyday, even when not hunting.

So I've been carrying a pocket knife every day since 1975. Not the same knife , but a pocket knife.
To me EDC means a knife that can be carried everyday.
