Does every 55 feel like the blade is rubbing/grinding on opening and and closing?

I decided to return this one to the Amazon- again. Maybe another one will be right. I am not going to accept a knife that is not right.

I decided against sending it to Buck at my cost. It does not make sense for what I paid for the knife.

Send me an e-mail on this and let me know how it goes.

Well, I received the next replacement and it is by far the worst example yet. The blade grinds pretty much through the whole opening and closing arc. There is a rivet sticking out on the handle. The blade is far off center nearly rubbing on the liner. This is very disappointing.

Mr Hubbard, I have sent you an email.

ill look at mine when I get back home. i dont remember it being gritty or off center. Ill trade if its perfect and work with Buck on yours. Benefit of living close to them.

OK, thanks! Let me know.

I bought an 055 off Amazon about 2 months ago and had the same problem, plus the scales were mismatched and one scale had a small flaw. I sent it to Buck and they replaced it with another 055. Replacement also felt 'gritty' at about 3/4 opening, but I sprayed silicone around the pivot and it is smooth as 'butta' now. The wife got a little irritated at me for opening and closing it while watching TV at night, but she got over it...LOL.

Thank you all for the heads up. We were able to find the root cause on this and correct the issue.

I'm just very appreciative that you, Jeff, and Buck are accessible in this forum, and are willing to listen to customer feedback. The icing on the cake is you've already taken action to make change and correct the root cause. I'm not aware of many companies that operate that way with such a high level of customer service. Buck is an awesome company! Thank you.

Jeff Hubbard has sent me a replacement which I received today. It is great!

Thanks, Jeff!

My 55, made in 2010, develops a gritty feel after repeated opening and closing. If I hold the lock bar release all the way down and the blade swings free, that tells me the resistance is in the contact surface between the tang and the lock bar. This knife (and many of my other Buck lockbacks) develop galling – wearing between 2 unlubricated metals with dissimilar hardness. Cleaning the metal particle deposits off bottom of the tang returns the knife to smooth action, for a while. A drop of oil can help extend the time interval between cleanings. Maybe Mr. Hubbard can confirm or deny this being an issue with current production.

For everyone reading a FYI. Jeff Hubbard is a fine fellow, and as part of his Buck position really appreciates seeing problem knives to check to make sure factory processes are correct. Especially in a case like this. It may cost $6.95 to mail it to BKI but you are doing a service to future owners. Always send him a email alert first. Your knife will return as if it has been in the Custom Shop. He personally handles your knife before and after. And many times, but I can't promise this, you get a little thank you surprise in your return package. Be sure to ID yourself as a Buck forum contributor and if you are Buck Collectors Club member be sure to mention that also.

Its your call, but Buck appreciates the feed-back from Buck forum contributors that encounter assembly problems. Return to Amazon and you just get another knife off the shelf, no one will look at it. 300

I just got a new 55 with a 2017 date stamp, and it has this same "rubbing" feeling at the start of the open cycle and at the end of the close cycle. I kinda hate to send it back just because of that. Does anyone know what was causing the issue, or if it will eventually "wear in" to feeling smooth?

I don’t know how long it would take for it to go away. I opened and closed the two that were grinding that I had and neither one improved after about 200 openings and closings.

However, since Buck sent me the good one, I have purchased two more 055’s and they weee both good.
