Does everyone still own SAKs?

I have a Victronix Alox Farmer with me everyday. Replacement for an old one that I lost some time ago. Well worth having. In fact, a long time ago my fathers SAK was the first knife that bit me as a kid. Still got a nice scar to go with the memory. Probably what got me interested in sharpies in the first place :)

Joe.

I have 5 Victorinox knives. I carry a 74mm one everyday no matter what. They are too useful not to have. Their thin blade makes them awesome cardboard cutters, grooming tools, I like to whittle with mine, and my most used one has a thinner, convexed blade from sandpaper sharpening. It goes through double and triple layer cardboard better than a proper razor. It doesn't hold the edge as long but its still good at edge retention. I love my SAKs

Everybody I know carries a SAK or 12. ;)

Seriously, I have a Rambler on my keychain (as does my wife), an Alox Electrician in my EDC rotation and I have various SAKs stashed all over my house, inside and out as well as in my vehicles. I also EDC a SAK Swisstool which, even though it is a "multi-tool", it's still a SAK.

I'm in my 40s.

When I was a kid, I saw other kids with their red handled knives. My electronics teacher carried one daily, cleaned his nails with them from time to time. In college, the guys next door ate their salami with an SAK. McGuyver was the bomb. SAKs were everywhere.

Is that still true nowadays? Does everyone have an SAK stashed away somewhere? Or, has the one-handed opener or multi-tool replaced the venerable SAK?

I still love 'em.

I'm 37 and I grew up with MacGyver who WAS the reason I asked for a SAK. My aunt from the states gave me my Explorer when I was 10/11 in 1987 (if memory serves me right).

It's not my main, go to tool I admit, but it still has its place and the small tasks it performs, especially the scissors.

Spartan Lite in my left front pocket every day, sometimes it's the only knife I'll carry.

Right now a Cybertool is the closest thing I have to an EDC (next in line would be my OLFA LA-X).

A Vic Climber is my EDC. It's kicked everything else out of my pockets, but I also carry the Vic money clip with it. Out in the woods, I usually carry a Farmer, or have a Huntsman in my pack. SAKs are entirely too handy not to have on you at all times, when possible.

Universally recognized, non-threatening, great blade geometry, cheap price, high quality. What's not to like?

Alright I just did physical count, 20, 22 of ya include my other keys. Here I thought I only had a couple. ;)

I've got a Stayglow Rambler and Alox Classic on my keychain. I also carry an Alox cadet every now and then. My dad has had a SAK in his pocket for as long as I can remember. Right now he's carrying a black Alox pioneer.

I have around 80 or so and they are major collector items so yea they are def still around and loved by many.

I have the tats to show my love!

I have a Midnight Minichamp on me almost every day. The red LED on the old ones was pretty useless, but the white one is decent for finding a keyhole, looking for whatever I dropped under my desk, etc. The pen and scissors are sometimes handy, and it's a 100% freak-out free blade option for opening a package.

I've used one of the large Wenger Ranger liner locks on some camping and backpacking trips. Occasionally I used the saw, but mostly it was a lot of extra bulk when I really only needed the blade. Definitely not a bad knife, though. I still have it laying around, but it doesn't get used much. I next tried the smaller Vic OHT but didn't like the ergos on that one and sold it.

Between my wife and kids there are another 4 or 5 in the house.

I've got quite a few I've bought over the years. Along with more restrictive gun laws, several jurisdictions are tightening down on knives too.

We're going to see SAKs become popular again . . . Unfortunately for a lot of the wrong reasons, even though they are very useful tools.

I've got quite a few, and there's always one in my pocket. They are affordable, come in a million different flavours, are well made and legal almost anywhere.

I don't think they've ever stopped being popular, they are probably the best selling pocketknives worldwide. Their main target audience is not knife enthusiasts, though. No fancy steel (blade geometry is spot on) and very few changes in their model lineup through the years.

I owned an outdoors kit store and Victorinox SAKs were my number one selling knife. Oddly enough, my best seller by far was the Classic with translucent pink scales. People who know nothing about knives know about Victorinox and, to a lesser degree, Wenger. Folks who would cringe at the sight of a Dragonfly and consider it a dangerous weapon are quite comfortable around SAKs.

I like plier based multitools, but they are too bulky and heavy for me to carry in my pocket everyday (I do keep one in each of my backpacks and briefcases). A three layer SAK fits my pocket and most of my daily needs quite nicely.

I carry a Classic every day along with whatever pocket knife I happen to fancy that day.
