Does packaging effect your purchase?

I’m just curious if the way a knife is packaged or what comes with the knife has any effect on your purchase. The reason I ask is I ordered a Vosteed knife and it arrived today. I have never seen a knife so well packaged! It had a sleeve with a tin inside. Inside the tin was a zipper pouch. It came with a cleaning cloth… 2 patches… a decal … information card about the knife. Here is a quick pic. All this for a $50 budget knife!!!

It made me think about other new knives I have on hand.

I have paid A LOT more for a knife that was just a plastic bag in a box. I know the silly extras might not appeal to some, but I like all the goodies!! Does it help are hinder your decision to buy?

Typically doesn't have any effect on purchases but when Civivi came out and each came with a pouch even for the cheaper knives it was definitely welcomed.

Vosteed doing that is awesome as well since they're a new brand they have to appeal and presentation does go along way and sometimes to get their knives some notice. I know a lot of the bigger knife manufactures have said they don't go above and beyond so they can keep cost down which I'm sure is partially true but I for one would love to have tin's and pouches on every knife purchase but it's not a deal breaker.

The packaging wouldn’t really impact my decision to buy. But I do appreciate nice presentation and packaging. I like how CRK’s come neatly boxed up with a bday card , tools , etc.

I'm not generally impressed, and it makes me wonder how much of my money went to that junk.

I think Spyderco does it right: The box is nice, but doesn't reek of money. It's nice enough that it seems like something that adds value if one resells the knife, but doesn't take up a ton of room. No silly drawstring bag that will never get used, nor patches & stickers that will immediately end up in a landfill. Come to think of it, I WOULD like a Spyderco sticker for my tool box.

I DO like the pouch that came with that last knife; it's something that might actually get used.

I don't buy knives for the promos or extras, if extra stuff came with it I wasn't aware of I go looking for the can ---
if I don't buy to resell I throw them all out, I abhor superfluous possessions, trinkets, knickknacks, shelf clutter, etc.

More than happy with a bulk packed knife, plastic asphyxiation bag, silica gel, knife. Done deal

I definitely appreciate it. The leather pouch the Biryukov comes with is nice, and when I travel I often hide a knife in them, though I never carry my "expensive" knives in my checked bags. My older and less valuable stuff goes.

I agree that while not necessary, swag is always appreciated.

Don’t care that much but I prefer smaller boxes/less packaging. Don’t want extras unless they’re truly useful (extra hardware).

Vosteed/CJRB/some of the other budget brands overdo it with the packaging and extras imo.

Nope. I get an incredible high from unboxing Lionsteel from their ghetto little cardboard match boxes.

Agree, I think there are more collectors then users now, and manufacturers know this so,
They do what they've been

My Demko ad20.5 came in a cheap clear plastic tube. I was very disappointed. Stickers and stuff I don't care about, but cleaning cloths and taco pouches are nice for traveling.

I was happy my new Biryukov came with the tool, my first one didn't.

But seriously, I do appreciate good presentation and swag. But only if the knife is well done. Idc what the box looks like or what it came with if it's off center, or has issues. Then I'd rather them put that money towards quality control.

I bought a bastinelli telum knife that was 350 it came with a blasted pelican type box, way overboard, sold the box for 30 bucks --- and later the knife

Rockstead has wonderful samurai-like presentation I've seen
