Does packaging effect your purchase?

I like the packaging for one reason.
I store all of the packages and junk in a great big plastic bin. It's my gauge, because when it's full it's time to sell.
And guess what? It's full.

Funny you should post that…..I do exactly the same thing for the same reason and in the garage as well! I oughta take a pic because the boxes are in a big plastic bin. Just repackaged and sent out 15 or so to be posted for sale. Small world.

When I had more collector / investor interest , the packaging seemed more important .

It was a way to store the knife and paper work and if you want to sell for top dollar , it helps to have it all .

Now , it's more just to protect the knife in transport . But clamshells still annoy me .

Elaborate wood boxes etc always make me suspect I paid too much ! ;) But nice to have more than a plastic bag .:p

I’m just curious if the way a knife is packaged or what comes with the knife has any effect on your purchase. The reason I ask is I ordered a Vosteed knife and it arrived today. I have never seen a knife so well packaged! It had a sleeve with a tin inside. Inside the tin was a zipper pouch. It came with a cleaning cloth… 2 patches… a decal … information card about the knife. Here is a quick pic. All this for a $50 budget knife!!!

It made me think about other new knives I have on hand.

I have paid A LOT more for a knife that was just a plastic bag in a box. I know the silly extras might not appeal to some, but I like all the goodies!! Does it help are hinder your decision to buy?
I like a zipper case

however. if a knife I REALLY want comes in a ziplock bag with my address on it all for a fair price I'm in.

It does effect my purchase decision but it seems on the more expensive knives important to others when you sell your knives. The Demko AD20.5 in a plastic tube felt cheap, the little Nanuk case that comes with Grimsmo maybe over the top, a nice pouch and a cloth are a cool gesture,do not all the other stuff.

No because I don’t know what packaging I’m getting till after the purchase because majority of purchases are made online.

I must admit getting a nice presentation on more expensive knives is appreciated. I also like when they provide a baggie or pouch to store the knife in.

Regardless, presentation/packaging would have no factor on whether or not to make a purchase.

As far as your vosteed, that’s very impressive but seems like overkill for $70 knife but still nice. Also kind of magnifies how cheap the manufacturing costs overseas must be to receive all that for only $70 much less a well made knife.

It does after the purchase. When I unbox a knife and see that someone has put a lot of thought and attention into how it’s been packaged vs throwing in a plastic baggie, that says a lot about how that company wants itself to be perceived and connect with its customers. It might or might not play into my next purchase, depending on what my next purchase is. On the other hand, a knife in a simpler, plainer package tells me that company is more concerned with providing value to their customers - boxes and certificates and stickers add a few $$$ to the price tag, but they don’t make the knife cut any better.

tl/dr: it depends.

No. I’m not doing unboxings on YouTube. I could not care less how a knife is packaged as long as it is protected during shipping.

Preferably, for me, all knives would come with a zippered pouch, or a velcro taco pouch like Kizer does. I especially like when they give you a zippered pouch that holds two knives. I don't tend to know how a knife is packaged until I get it because I'm not into unboxing videos, however when I get a knife that has a storage thing for it, I appreciate it for sure.

Packaging never stopped me from buying a knife I know I wanted, and I used to throw the boxes away until I got into collecting. I can see why others like to have nice packaging though, it leaves a good impression while opening the knife.

Nah. It’s nice to get extras of course, but they’re not expected nor necessary. It’s all about the knife.

Does packaging effect your purchase?

Nope.
