Does packaging effect your purchase?

Yes if there was no packaging I would be even more eager to buy the knife. I hate packaging, stickers, cheap coasters, and the other garbage marketing crud thrown into knife purchases. I don't mind quality zipper storage pouches though.

A sticker is always nice. Quality sheath is always welcome. But the quality packaging is just silly.

I like the way Randall does it. Knife and nice sheath wrapped in paper in a plain shipping box.

Fancy presentation boxes, trinkets, and doodads might be nice for a gift knife but for me, no.

I generally like a basic zipper pouch, like you get on the Civivi knives. Of course, opacity isn't the best for storing or organizing a collection but I also don't care for hanging on to boxes. Honestly, I could do without the cloth too.

I’m just curious if the way a knife is packaged or what comes with the knife has any effect on your purchase. The reason I ask is I ordered a Vosteed knife and it arrived today. I have never seen a knife so well packaged! It had a sleeve with a tin inside. Inside the tin was a zipper pouch. It came with a cleaning cloth… 2 patches… a decal … information card about the knife. Here is a quick pic. All this for a $50 budget knife!!!

It made me think about other new knives I have on hand.

I have paid A LOT more for a knife that was just a plastic bag in a box. I know the silly extras might not appeal to some, but I like all the goodies!! Does it help are hinder your decision to buy?
Not in the slightest. I remember Strider; that was fine by me. SureFire flashlights have minimal packaging these days. I do keep whatever they come in in case I sell it, as I feel there might be more interest if all the packaging's there.

I'm not generally impressed, and it makes me wonder how much of my money went to that junk.

I think Spyderco does it right: The box is nice, but doesn't reek of money. It's nice enough that it seems like something that adds value if one resells the knife, but doesn't take up a ton of room. No silly drawstring bag that will never get used, nor patches & stickers that will immediately end up in a landfill. Come to think of it, I WOULD like a Spyderco sticker for my tool box.

I DO like the pouch that came with that last knife; it's something that might actually get used.
Yes, Spyderco is about as much as I need or want vis-a-vis packaging and paraphernalia.

The only thing I like is a padded zipper pouch and, if necessary (to designate the steel type or other details), a small card/certificate.

I appreciate when they give you a pouch (like Civivi for example).
It’s definitely not going to make-or-break a purchase decision for me tho, that’s for sure lol…
I have some extra ZT pouches for knives I keep handy, or sometimes I’ll even take an extra knife with me, in a pouch, in the car, so it won’t get misplaced as easily. In case I feel like switching knives during the work day lol

Not at all.

Can it be admired, sure, then toss it into the trash.

Except now that my daughter has become sure my knives are actually hers and I’m just borrowing them till I die, I’m told to keep all my boxes!

I buy most if not all my knives online. So unless I am buying a knife (or brand) that I have already purchased in the past, there's no way that I could know the type of packaging it will come in, until it arrives.
So, no, the packaging does not affect my purchase since I don't know what it is beforehand.
My purchases are based on the knife.

The packaging never enters into my purchasing decision, but I don't mind a few extras. Occasionally a pouch might even get used.

Almost 100% of my knives are purchased online. I have no idea what I’m getting save for the actual knife. It is kind of a nice surprise to see how it;s packaged though

I would never buy or not buy a knife based on packaging, but I always appreciate a nice experience. A sticker is a nice touch though.

Grimsmo knives provides these nice cases with custom foam, so I feel obligated to keep them. But it pisses me off at the same time.
