Yes if there was no packaging I would be even more eager to buy the knife. I hate packaging, stickers, cheap coasters, and the other garbage marketing crud thrown into knife purchases. I don't mind quality zipper storage pouches though.

Not in the slightest. I remember Strider; that was fine by me. SureFire flashlights have minimal packaging these days. I do keep whatever they come in in case I sell it, as I feel there might be more interest if all the packaging's there.I’m just curious if the way a knife is packaged or what comes with the knife has any effect on your purchase. The reason I ask is I ordered a Vosteed knife and it arrived today. I have never seen a knife so well packaged! It had a sleeve with a tin inside. Inside the tin was a zipper pouch. It came with a cleaning cloth… 2 patches… a decal … information card about the knife. Here is a quick pic. All this for a $50 budget knife!!!

I have paid A LOT more for a knife that was just a plastic bag in a box. I know the silly extras might not appeal to some, but I like all the goodies!! Does it help are hinder your decision to buy?
Yes, Spyderco is about as much as I need or want vis-a-vis packaging and paraphernalia.I'm not generally impressed, and it makes me wonder how much of my money went to that junk.
I think Spyderco does it right: The box is nice, but doesn't reek of money. It's nice enough that it seems like something that adds value if one resells the knife, but doesn't take up a ton of room. No silly drawstring bag that will never get used, nor patches & stickers that will immediately end up in a landfill. Come to think of it, I WOULD like a Spyderco sticker for my tool box.
I DO like the pouch that came with that last knife; it's something that might actually get used.
Do you want some knife with that packaging, Sir?I said the same thing when I got my Vosteed Raccoon a few months ago. Crazy good packaging + stickers and patches for like $70 bucks..
Is it necessary? No.. but it is nice to have.
