I was curious about this as well, and am glad to hear that you and your parents got something figured out (I read through, but didn't respond to your other thread).
I really do think that in your case, perception is a huge deal, as you're trying to help your parents understand it is a tool to you. And, in that way, I think the uncoated blades, and different handle colors can really help (even if you don't get this now) "sell" the idea that this is just a tool.
And again when you do get to use it, use it with almost exaggerated safety (two hand opening, or at least slowly opening, keeping well clear of others when cutting, etc) and I think over time they'll come around

But yes, the RAT 1/2 are both great value EDC blades (same category as the Tenacious), so when you get older/when your parents are ok with it, give it a shot.
