Does the spyderco delica have any competition?

my delica was my go to for work because of the price point I didn't mind if anything happened to it. I was looking at the polestar but I haven't really heard anyone talk highly of it. Doesn't have to be spyderco, but looking to keep it under $60. Same specs as delica give or take

Any ideas?

It's going to be hard to beat it at the price point it's at. There's the Kershaw blur or leek.

I am partial to the D4, i like mine too much not to consider it as being it own league ;)

I think the kershaw leek, the kizer vanguard or the rat/aancudo can be recommended as different but interesting options

But for what I am concerned the only folder I think to replace my Delica is an opinel
It doesn't has the one hand open/close capability a Delica has but for all that matter it does the job.
It is lightweight and a excellent cutter. The locking mechanism is simple... and when it come to price it is difficult to do better

Depending on whom you are asking. Someone may take two Ontario Rat 2 in D2 over one Delica 4 in VG10. For me, I will take Delica 4 in ZDP-189 over in VG10 + $$.

Steel Will Cutjack beats it for me, Byrd knives have good options as well. Spyderco Centofonte out cuts it. Offerings from Ruike are worth a look too

At that price point it's about the finest EDC I can think of.

Not a Spyderco kinda guy, so I kicked the extra coin and went with the HK 14716 Mini Axis. I like G10, D2 and the Axis lock.

Closest direction I can point you is the Kizer Vanguard V3 Vigor. I don't own one, but I considered it when I bought the HK.

If someone's needs are normal light duty edc tasks, I don't see why Buck's lightweight 20$ models like the bantam and bucklite max couldn't complete.
I'm sure the delica has a fancier steel , but they're all pocket friendly lightweight one handed lockbacks in a decent steel.

Probably not what you're looking for, but the delica is just a knife so every other folder is competition.

Yo that Boker Plus USA knife looks very similar to a Delica. There are also some Benchmades that are a good comparison like griptillian pr new bugout.

Delica's biggest competition is from Spyderco its self the Salt!

Kershaw dividend may be an option. A little cheaper, I think. Made in USA. It is spring assisted, however, so if you don't like that, wouldn't work for you.

The Tenacious is a great knife, I've had three and they've been hard workers and aren't difficult to sharpen. It's also got a little more 'meat' on it as far as size and blade stock.

All that said, the Delica is one of my favorite overall blades despite it's price.

Ontario RAT Model II in AUS 8. Less than $30 at various retailers. AUS 8 is not VG 10, but it's not bad. The RAT is not quite the equal of the Delica. It has a drop-clip point, stud openers, liner lock, lighter blade, less grippy scales and it is a bit smaller in all demension, save blade length. But there are full SS liners, opening & closing are as smooth as butter, a blade assist in the opening and a 4 position black pocket clip. It's well built and a great utility knife.

I know you said around $60, but for this particular size range, I can't help myself.

Spyderco Mantra line...

They can be found for around $100, sometimes less. Ti framelock, steel lock face, bearings, Wire clip and it comes with an M4 blade steel! The handle size is near spot on with a little more cutting edge and built for slicing.
It is a little monster, and definitely an underrated one at that.

How can you Not upgrade?

J JDX try it. If you even liked a Delica, I would go so far to say that you are only doing yourself a disservice by not giving one a fair shake.

Another D4.No matter what you will try,you will turn back to it.Go for a diferent steel or color,if you got bored.
The Polestar is just a Tenacious in designer jeans, its heavier and wider, doesnt carry as nice as the Delica, and for me liner lock will came second to anything except a frame lock.

I have to say, I think the closest competition by price, and spec vs. spec, hands down is the Boker Patriot.
Many of the other posters here are comparing the Delica to knives with different steels, different locking mechanisms, different handle scale material etc.

In my mind, the most direct competitor is the Boker Patriot.
Very similar size, mid frame lock back with FRN, very similarly performing steel (154cm vs VG10) and prices within a few bucks of one another.

Biggest differences are thumb stud vs spyder hole, and made in USA vs Japan.

The delica just doesn't do it for me because it's so plain or something. Just not a huge fan but what can I say. for the price and what is offered, it's almost hard to beat. Might be able to find a Cold Steel Code 4 for couple few more bucks
