Does this bother anyone else?

Don't just talk about knives, look at McDonald's toys, Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Disney products, cars, etc. Majority are made out of USA. Someone correctly mentioned, it's the quality of the product that matters.

I think what bothers me more are the blatant knock offs in the catalog that are of course made in China.

Knock offs are different problem. They could be made from anywhere though China is notorious for imitating and yet not give a flying crap about copyright.

Famous one... Apple with a bite on the left side.

When you buy "Made in China", don't forget that it is Americans who are doing the importing, distribution, selling and shipping of the products. For ever $1 you pay for a China product, only about 1/3 stays in China, the remaining 2/3 of every dollar stays in the USA.

Hopefully that helps.

Excellent point. Sometimes we do look at this issue with blinders.

We live in a world economy now I guess, hell - the frozen chips (fries to the Americans) I buy at the supermarket were made in the Netherlands, go figure that and they are cheaper per kg than fresh potatoes grown in Australia!?
As for the bother me factor, not really.

Chinese factory workers, most of which had nothing to do with the running of China in its darkest days, are supposed to suffer for the sins of their past leaders, most of which aren't even alive anymore? How far do you want to apply this ethical standard? North America wasn't a pristine wilderness prior to European exploration, contrary to popular belief. And most of North America's prosperity came at the expense not only of its exploited natural resources, but the robbery of its native peoples, and enslavement of whole populations.

Almost all of this argument over knives is absurd. China doesn't make knives. USA doesn't make knives. Knife companies make knives. The patch of dirt the factory sits on has nothing to do with the quality of its products.

Every time you buy something from a country, you put a stamp of approval on their government.
Over the last few decades much has been done to recognise the crimes of our past, and we do pay for things that happened hundreds of years ago.

As far as hardware and outsourced coding is concerned, no doubt about it.
The development of the internet and operating systems originated in the U.S.A.

What about the fact the US auto makers have cars made in Canada and Mexico ? You may think you are buying US made , but you are not.

Having bought some of the latest offerings from AG , they are easily on par or past the quality of Case knives , and at a better price point.

It is just hypocritical to apply this only to knives , as many have said in other discussions , the PC you are posting on was not made in America , even if it is an Apple , it was not made in America.

So if someone decides to not buy knives just because they are not USA made , please follow thru and buy ONLY USA made products for every purchase. Report back in a few weeks and let us know how you are doing. Don't go half in , go all the way.

I buy the best I can for my money. I do my research and know how the product , warranty and company stand by their product.

Actually, I personally am. I drive an older, full frame, non-computerized car with a carburetor. A computer controlled unibody that weighs 2,600 pounds and is as narrow as a pickle is not my idea of a car.

As far as electronics are concerned, I personally couldn't care less. With the exception of televisions, they are all ultimately disposable. Even if kept in pristine condition, down the road there will be incompatibility issues with software eventually. To me, only the software counts.

There's no need to report back in a few weeks. Only my electronics and some clothing are not made in the U.S.A. My purchasing is done mainly on eBay. All the quality, U.S.A. made products of yesterday can be purchased for a song and a dance by people raising money to purchase shiny black plastic items from Asia.

You know. After a while when people keep violating the rules we have here. There is a price to pay.

I am not going to issue warning any more after this. This forum is for the discussion of knives. Not politics not anything else. Just knives.

I am locking this pile of garbage.

This forum is not for the discussion of politics, economies, or the policy of countries where knives are made.

It is for the discussion of knives. There is a huge difference and some of you just do not seem to get it.

Thread moved from General and locked for now.
