Does This Look Right? Opinions Please.

I agree that is strange, but I think the bigger issue is that the other 3 Winkler Survival Strikers in stock at Knife Connection have the same problem! Apparently Knife connection has been in communication with Winkler and they acknowledged receiving my email and photo(but I have not heard back from them). I have sent the knife back to Knive Connection and they are going to send all four of the Winkler Survival knives back to Winkler. Now I wait.

Of course the easiest course of action for me would be to cancel my order and move on, but I really like that knife!
Man, that stinks.
I hate that you have to deal with all that nonsense. I'll be hoping you get a good replacement in a timely manner.

I’m not trying to take away from your bigger issue, as I said, just found it strange that you were unable to contact them by phone.

I actually just called them prior to this post, had a couple of questions about the Jack Knife… Verizon is my carrier and had no problem getting through.

That's good for you. I called this number, 828 262 3691, three times yesterday and call failed each time. Sorry I can't give you a good reason for those failures. I was able to get through today and I actually just got off the phone with them. They are aware of the problem with that particular run of knives and are working to resolve it.

It's good to hear that you got through and they're taking care of you. I'm always happy to hear good news.

I tried that number and they picked up. Maybe something wrong with your phone?

Just a little update:

I cancelled my order for my Winkler Survival Striker and the dealer that I bought it from has returned all that they had in stock. I still would like to have that knife so I called another dealer that listed it in stock. I explained my situation to him and he was familiar with the issue - the one he has in stock has the same bend to the left. I asked him if he was returning it or selling it as is. He said "the blade is within specs for Winkler knives". Maybe I'm crazy but for over $400.00 that knife is not within my specs. Anyway, buyer beware.

All the RD-6s are like that.

The tang doesn't match the spine, the spine doesn't match the grind, and you won't find a 90* angle anywhere on them.

It's a damned shame that Ontario didn't have a bit more pride in their work...especially on that knife. It's a great little knife and has so much potential.

6.75" of 5160 hostility is definitely a knife that the World could use right now.
I thought it was an Ontario too, lol, I was like "My SP-1 looks just like that!"

It's not bent as all, it's a slight difference in the grind on one side. Totally acceptable in a hand ground knife imo

Same image, perfectly straight line running up left side. Optical illusion created by the right having a slight convexity in the photo.

Well I'm glad that Winkler and the dealer I bought it from have higher standards than you.

There are many other perfectly ground (by hand) knives out there. Winkler Knives are great, but $400 should get you perfection!
I know. I have a few White River Knives and they are as close to perfection as it gets!

What was the final resolution, if you don't mind me asking?

EDIT- Disregard my question. I read the last few posts. I hope you get your Winkler at some point. I have a few, and have had good luck with 'em.

It’s a mistake (by Winkler) but at least they seem to be “owning up” to it. I’m not bashing the company.
I don’t understand how some of you guys just give a pass on small mistakes. People pay for the Winkler quality and expertise… not a 3/4 effort! No excuse here!

Now run a straight line up the RIGHT side of the blade. There's no way that line would touch the tip of this blade.

This is a grind issue, making the blade appear bent.

That's not even close to a "perfectly straight line" (deja vu, post #22). I can see with my naked eye how the line repeatedly jutts to the right. It's even more obvious when I click on the photo and enlarge it. Like a diagonal line drawn on an Etch-A-Sketch.

My theory about the knives is that maybe they were all heat treated together as a batch, and they all warped a little. I'm no expert on heat treatments, maybe the blades were left in the oven a little too long.

I think that the vendor sending $1600 worth of knives back to the maker says a lot. I don't imagine they would do that unless they also saw a problem with them. They are in the business of selling knives after all. Sending inventory back to the maker means less inventory to sell, and less income to pay their bills.

The grind is uneven, in close-up, the spine looks like an old beat up piece of metal, and the scales don't even cover the full tang. Blade photo looks like it was stone-washed with random rocks in a washing machine. The screws holding the scales on from the hardware store. Other than that, it looks like a knife.

I certainly don't see the appeal of any of the workmanship. $15 gas station knives often have more symmetrical finish on the blades. What good is "hand-ground and sharpened " if it's so uneven? Is that appealing to any of y'all?
