Does your Kernshaw open up in your pocket without the safety on?

I find the design allows it to easily open in the pocket just a bit to expose the tip of the blade, and when you reach your hand in your pocket- Ouch!

It has happened to me once......I fell asleep with a Leek in my pocket and somehow it came out and opened....stabbed my right butt cheek. Yea it hurt.

I've carried a Leek (back pocket) on a pretty regular basis for several years. I never have the lock on and I've never had a Leek open in my pocket. The above incident being the exception as I'm not sure it was in or out of my pocket when it opened. :)

I don't have a leek, but have a scallion, similar design, and I always keep the safety off. It never opens in my pocket accidentally.

I carry it tip down, and yes it has opened on me at least twice. No damage to me personally, but I'd sliced the inside of my pocket twice and dulled it out pretty nice.

Had a chive open in my pocket. When I reached in to put keys away I got stabbed at the base of my thumb. Still have a nice scar. No more Kershaw "unassisted" openers for me!

I've carried a Kershaw Leek as my EDC on and off for years without using the safety, and never had that problem. I would think that if the AO is properly adjusted it ought to either snap fully closed or snap fully open. If its hanging up partly open I think there is something wrong. I would consider sending it in to Kershaw for warranty.

I have had that happen to me (just recently I impaled myself on a tip up folder with a loose locking mechanism, it looks like I'll have a nice scar on my left ring finger now), but never with a Leek. :(

I have four Onion AO's including two leeks and have never had a problem. Is your pivot too loose?

Yes, it has happend a couple of time, blade up. The lock doesn't stay locked. I stopped carrying it, I don't have the any trouble with the Skyline.

I've tightened down the safety so it doesn't work on all of my Leeks.
I carry them tip up clipped to my right pocket. I've never had one open on me either.
Even if it did open, you can't make everything idiot proof. Gotta know your limits and what your knife is doing. They're sharp after all.

Nope, my Leek has not 'bit' me ...yet. I usually carry it without the lock engaged and tip-up. The blade detent is quite good on my Leek.

Now I have been 'bit' by my Kershaw OD-1 when it partially opened in my pocket and I went to pull it out. But that has a weak detent.

ive always worried about that ,hasnt happened yet. the shallot has no safety,i guess the flipper has to be hit just right to open accidently.& the way we keep our knives sharp, it could be a serious problem.

I have 187 + or - 2 Leeks and while I don't carry each one, I have not had one open on me.
I've almost had one open on me though.
My own fault though, digging around in my pocket, safety off and my keychain caught the thumbstud.
While digging I moved the Leek back towards the middle of the pocket.
I normally carry a Leek tip-down with it sitting in the front of my pocket.
mainly because I usually have a ZT or Groove at the rear of the same pocket.

When a torsion bar "wears" out, it might not have the tension to hold the blade in place anymore.
Replacing it might be a good idea and would eliminate it if that is the problem.
If you feel you can take the knife apart, contact Kershaw and ask for a torsion bar for your Leek.
They'll send it to you at no charge.
If you don't feel like you can tackle the assemble/disassemble then send
it off to their repair dept and they'll fix you up.
Either way, they'll help you out the best they can.

Is your name IGotStabbed because your Leek opened up on you and you got stabbed? :D

I had it happen with a liner lock benchmade panther. It cut me pretty bad. None of my assisted openers or any other knives besides that panther have ever opened in my pocket.

most of last year i carried one of two kershaw leeks, and had only one open on me, i had the safety off and had it set for tip down carry, i was also stupidly not wearing it in teh back of teh pocket like suggested so it popped open and sliced my jeans, myy other leek though has never exhibited this issue, mainly because its been set for tip up carry, making it almost impossible to open in pocket

Cheers!

I dont think I would ever carry an A/O in tip down carry. Anything goes wrong and it goes right in the gut.

Mike, when you have 187 Leeks, you need help, box up all your Damascus Leeks and I will take care of them for you.

In regards to my knife opening in my pocket, hasn't ever happened, keep your tip up AOs snug in the corner of your pocket and it shouldn't happen.
