Does Your Leek Open-up in Your Pocket?

The blade didn't completely open up, but it was exposed once, but I felt if before getting cut. I would imagine the cut would be a very nasty and disabling cut.

The way the knife is design, there isn't any tension to keep the blade in the handle, the blade moves and stays at whatever position until it gets to the position where the torsion bar takes it to a quarter position.

The Kernshaw AO system in very ingenious and fast as an automatic, but the issue is that it's not safe I think. The safety is good, but it's location sucks.

Never had a problem but if your leek gets a little "loose" and opens too easily, you can just tighten the pivot a little to increase the resistance. It may slow the blade a little but if you don't want to use the safety, it's safer

Either there your pivot is too tight, or there is something wrong with your torsion bar. Speedsafe is designed so that the torsion bar keeps the blade closed when it is at rest. Unless the blade opens to the point where the torsion bar can take over opening the knife fully, it will close the blade. Other than fully open or fully closed, there should not be a position where the blade stops on its own.

Nope, I have the Damascus...solid little knife and stays closed when needed and opens the same way.

I’ve never owned a Leek. I have had the Whirlwind come open on me. Twice. Bit me once. It’s now a drawer queen.

No.

I've only had tha happen with a Boker Top Lock Auto. To be fair, the boker comes with a sheath and isn't designed for loose in pockets..

Does your Kernshaw open up in your pocket without the safety on?

I find the design allows it to easily open in the pocket just a bit to expose the tip of the blade, and when you reach your hand in your pocket- Ouch!

there is a saftey for it...

Yes, maybe it’s just another case of a knife being designed for the right handed. The blade tip up and towards the center side of the pocket and the lock above the clip exposed. For me the lock almost always worked its way into the off position.

It may be as some of you say that it was never right but there is no way I could have known, I have 1 and it’s the way it is from the day I bought it. You may think I’m an idiot and know nothing about knives but I assure you that is not the case. I did get used to it but I always had to hesitate and check the knife before I put my hand into my left pocket. I keep my money clip, pistol and knife in this pocket.

Like I said in an earlier post I have no problem with the Skyline or the BM Grip that I EDC in rotation. I prefer to not carry a knife that opens on its own. I really liked this knife and carried it for 4 or 5 years and it was always razor sharp. I only laid open my pinky finger two or three times total, but I always had to be cautious.

I took the safety off mine(do so at your own risk) and no it's never come open with out me intentionally opening it! I carried mine all through my vacation and it just left my pocket today. I have been carrying it this way for well over a year now and the same with my Chive with no problems!

My Chive has opened enough that I know longer carry it. Once it was opened when I was donning jeans and cut myself six inches.

For all knives, including assisted openers, I make sure that the spine of the blade is firmly against a seam of a pocket. This means left pocket for tip down and right pocket for tip up. I've never had a blade come open when following this simple rule.

I was considering purchasing a Shallot for EDC, but this thread is making me think twice.

I have carried every A/O that Kershaw puts out and have never had one open on me in my pocket. Tip up or tip down didn't matter either.

I wouldn't worry about it opening.

My experience with the Kershaw's AO, is, so far, good. I have the Leek and I EDC it almost everyday. Usually I have the lock on, but when I dont, I havent had it open up, yet. Im not really worried about it opening, or getting cut if it does, but you just never know..

I've carried a leek since ~99, never have I had one even come close to opening in my pocket. All of my AO's from kershaw have had the safety fully removed too boot.

I've never had any problems with the leek but I did have my BLackout tear out through the side of my pocket once.

I have had that problem with mine as well. I just got away from them and went with the more traditional assisted openers.
