Does your love for knives and tools fit with your profession?

Firefighter here.Lots of uses around the Firehouse and on the street.Even when you ride on a ten-ton tool box,the humble pocket knife comes in very handy.

I'm a graphic designer.
I spent almost all my days sitting in front of my computer playing with a mouse :jerkit:

Is still amazing how often my knife - multitool - flashlight is used!

BETO

====================
Sorry for my english :o

I'm a retired game warden. Knives were an absolute necessity. I started making knives before I got retired from orthopedic injuries. My last 14 years I ran patrol boats offshore, so knives were still a must. They just had to withstand corrosion a bit better.

Now that I'm retired I get to make them and not deal with bureaucrats. They helped a lot when I had livestock, too.

Airline Pilot--not allowed to carry a knife....but...I AM allowed to carry a gun! :)

So, I usually throw in a multi-tool (to adjust the gun, if needed... )--very handy in the cockpit.

I wok in a kitchen, so i use knives a lot. WE use Victorinox Fibrox line, and they get abused to hell; Droped tossed, scraped on metal, used as a screwdriver, used to chop through bone, the works. :D

As a stationary engineer, there is need for knives in the boileroom. It is away from the public areas of the building so knives are not a problem. Most of the time a stout folder will do the job, but sometimes I find myself using a fixed blade for scraping away gasket material on boiler fittings. Its a knife friendly place, and its not uncommon for tradesmen to have some kind of knife on their belt.

Semi-retired/retarded, former museum director. I live in the country so get to carry pretty much whatever I want. I have a shop and forge and anvil where I get to bang on steel whenever I want and make a mess out of them. :D

I'm a college art professor. I use my knives for cutting art supplies every day of the week. The largest knife I carry to work is a Spyderco Caly 3. My students call it the "Crocodile Dundee" pocket knife. They would probably run from the room screaming if I pulled out my Spyderco C95 Manix. Unfortunately the Manix only gets used on my days off.

Doesn't your cockpit depressurize when you peel an apple or open mail with your gun?:)

I'm a biochemist. The closest thing to a knife that I use on a daily basis are rusty razor blades. No way I pull out my pocket knife in the lab. Too many nasty things around. So, no, my interest in knives does not coincide with my profession.

I'm not going to school right now but didn't have any problem carrying it on campus before. Currently my job is grinding damascus, so I don't think there's any problem with carrying a knife.

I have a number of nasty things in the lab too.
I don't add to them by allowing rusty razor blades to proliferate too much.

It's a legitimate reason (as if I needed one) to carry a dedicated knife for lab purposes.

"I don't add to them by allowing rusty razor blades to proliferate too much."

If it were just me, I wouldn't either, but it always seems that someone leaves one or a few in the sink drain. I swear, sometmes its like working with monkeys. No way I'm handing my pocket knife to a monkey.

High School and undergraduate college – Meat cutter in family business – definite YES.

Retired Army Officer (1976-1999) – another definite YES.

Manager, R&D, major food company – qualified yes. Lots of package/box opening (samples, ingredients), test equipment maintenance and repair (multitool/SAK), etc. I use a knife several times a day for myself and I get called on to use it for other often.

I'm a truck driver, I deliver pallets of groceries to a chain of grocery stores. I carry a Kershaw Mini-Cyclone right now, I'm not really a fan of larger knives, the MC is just the right size and opens fast. I use a knife for cutting strapping, boxes, shrinkwrap and whatever else.

Being a tradesman , i can always find a use for a good stout blade . Sizes in the 4" range dont put up flags '
