Does your physical appearance determine your carry?

Yes, if I'm in a suit I carry something classier looking, under normal circumstances, a ZT or the Umnum that's on her way will suit me just fine… I carry the CF inlay Sebenza 21 for classier. Considering finding something Damascus.

Not really. My new job in an office that is not knife friendly has affected how I carry. I know carry a "tactical" folder under my belt in my waistband instead of clipped to my pocket. Any thing I normally need a knife for, I use my SAK. That doesn't draw too many weird looks. I do like having something more substantial and locking for a variety of just in case situations. I've been training to adjust my muscle memory everyday and while my draw is smooth, I'm not yet fully comfortable with my new carry position.

I carry a knife that I think is suitable for what I expect to do, and also dress accordingly. Fortunately, that means this issue pretty much takes care of itself. If I'm gonna kill something, I'm not going to be wearing a suit and tie. And if I'm working (I teach guitar, and preach,) I prolly don't need a hunting knife anyway. So, I suppose you could almost say I pick my knife to go with my outfit, but I pick my outfit to go with my activity, so...

Yes...and No. I normally carry the right tools for any job that I may run into on a daily basis. 99% of the time I have more then what I need to get through the day (because I _really_ like my tools). I normally dress to fit my gear, not gear to fit my dress. I can fit everything nicely in cargo's, but for jeans I'll swap out a folder or two for a belt/ boot knife to open up some pocket real estate. On special occasions I will make exceptions to what I have on my persons but that just means the rest of my gear is in the car or close by. For a suit or nicer dress I'll drop a thinner profile folder in my pocket, a SAK in a slim black leather case that rides 5 o'clock, and everything else in my wife's purse or the car.

ive started to allow how I dress determine what I carry, but at least I always have a fixed blade, SAK, and a locking folder on me. it may be a Candiru, an alox pioneer and a dragonfly when I wear shorts, or an Izula II, alox farmer, and a G-10 Police when wearing jeans. either way I feel comfortable saying I have enough knife for anything may run into throughout the day.

When I am wearing a wool suit, to work in the bank where I work, I always carry a 14" machete strapped on my back. I just now made that up, just to be a smart alec.

I'm different than many of you. I have different knives, for different looks. I attend a wide variety of events, from mud bogs to opera, and I have a different knife for each type of event. It's kind of fun for me. It's kind of like shoes. You look at your choices and pick what kind of mood you're in. Most of my knives are high quality, so any of them can preform most jobs. Judging from the responses, I'm certainly in the minority, but that's ok.

Maybe a minority but I'm in there with you. Knives for all occasions and they are all sharp. Kind of fun for me too. I actually own more knives than shoes though so the knives get fewer rotations :D.

Only for functionality. Like if I'm wearing a long coat in the the winter, a long dangler sheath or neck knife would be in order.

I totally get your question, I think! If your referring to legality of the carry, and the police that profile you then it might be a good idea. If one is in New York and there stop and frisk bullshit, one should be aware!

I almost always have a traditional folder in my pocket, I switch off between a small stockman, large trapper, and a couple of muskrats, and a small SAK.

When I am not at work or going somewhere with security, I usually also carry a fixed blade (usually my BK24) or a large locking folder (Ken Warner BGG). They can go to Wal-Mart or Home Depot, but not to the ballpark or Civic Center.

9 times out of 10, i have my spyderco endura in my pocket. Either the blue vg-10 or green zdp-189. If I'm in my suit, it's my buck Vantage. Deep pocket clip and black scales to match my pants. At work, Ken Warner fixed blade. I like to "accessorize" but it also depends on the situation too

In town
Shorts or beat up jeans= PM2
Work/casual jeans=Large sebenza
Khakis and dress pants= small sebenza

Great outdoors usually a fixed blade unless water is involved.

To a certain degree yes. For more formal dress occasions I usually carry something less "tactical" looking and smaller, like my CF Chaparral, G10 Dragonfly, Ritter Mini Grip with Cuscadi scales and STR low ride clip. For general day to day carry it's either a ZT0566, PM2, or Cryo along with my FRN Dragonfly or Ladybug. I don't think I own any "mean" knives.

For office use, I carry a Leatherman Wingman and some sort of thin folder (usually a Kershaw Vapor III or One Ton) with a stainless pocket clip, for more of a tool-like appearance. If I'm doing yard work or something else where I'll potentially need a knife but don't need assisted opening, I prefer "tool brand" knives like Leatherman, Coast or occasionally Gerber with a hefty pocket clip that I can get at easily with gloves on. For more leisurely settings, I most commonly carry a Kershaw RJI with a small, black deep-carry clip.

Of course, yes. I have more folders than pairs of pants, so what I'm wearing (work, casual , summer, winter) along with what I'll be doing drives what I carry.

Although a SAK or a Micra is almost always in the pocket.

I carry a yojimbo 2 when in suit or shorts or gym clothes. When wearing a coat on top of the suit, or jeans, I always add something bigger. Cs Spartan, Voyager XL, something along those lines.
So I carry big whenever my clothing allows it.

Always modern tactical.

I'm about 5'8 but 220lb, I'm built like a silverback. To look less intimidating I only carry traditional or small slip-joints in more professional/academic settings, save a Dragonfly or Opinel. Only when I go out casually am I inclined to carry ANYTHING modern. Fishing or outdoors activities is the only time fixed is allowed. I live in Cali"Mangina"fornia.

I dress each day according to what tasks or activities the day/night involve. What I carry with me is determined pretty much the same way. Function dictates form. Keeping it simple works best for me.
