Dogfather: Gross Abuse (Pics. Dialup Beware.)

Take it easy man! Yeah your right, I just picked up the Bladeforums fever, so what, I've been playing with knives since I was a kid. I'm 34. I happen to just plane ol, like knives. Your reading into my thread way to deep. Really Dude, I don't have any i'll will towards anyone, and the test was done as a spoof, TO SHOW OF MY NEW DOG FATHER........I can only repeat, that since I have been having so much fun on here of late, I wanted to do something for the forum, and have some fun doing it, and in the middle of my fun, my damn knife chipped out, so I reported it to you guys....I'm sorry if this gets your panties in bunch...but ...I really just want to come on here, and hang out..maybe pick up some cool knives. Heck man..I don't have any real knowledge in steel, I'm trying to learn though. So...I hope you can all sleep easier knowing I'm not an evil spy..or something.:D PS(EDIT)...reading what I had written JUST after it had happened, and posting it in the wrong spot...You could think something was up...but I stand behind how I felt.

Dave Rishar - Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I do pretty much the same thing myself. I don't use gloves and I constantly check the steel temperature by touching it. I use a sponge instead of a bucket to cool the metal down if it starts to heat up too much.

Gunknifenut - Yeah, I was suspicious too when I first read your post. It would be so easy for someone to damage a knife some other way and then claim it was done during normal use. I had an RTAK that lost huge chunks out of the edge, back behind the edge even, during normal limbing of a spruce tree. I thought about posting pics and writing a scathing review, but I decided against it because others have not had the same experience with RTAKs. I figure I just got a bad one. It happens. One thing you can count on with Busses and their relations is good customer service. If you broke it they will make it good. I am due to receive my own Dog Father here any day and I will be sure to put it through some tough work, not as tough as Dave's, but I will definitely repeat your work and then some. If mine chips out then there may be an issue with the steel, but I will eat my panties if that happens. :D

I do not condone actually eating undergarments of anykind.:D

No problem, I am saying that it could easily be taken as such. I am not saying that what happened did or didn't. You were there.

But a little less than a year ago we had another guy come in here and state he "WIGGLED" a Swamp Rat and it broke with hardly any pressure. And he went around publicizing it all over, posted it on several forums so everyone would read it, not like one forum was eough. Then when we coaxed more out of him, it turns out that this guy beat on the spine of that Swamprat for 8 hours with a PIPE WRENCH. Get it? So when someone fairly new comes around and stirs the pot it is suspect.

If one of the regulars or guys that are kown in here did it, it would not be looked on as a big deal, but then again they would not go around posting it in several places. Agendas are always hidden by certain unscrupulous makers.

No issue with you. It seems honest enough and the chip is quite unusual so it appears to just be a defect. When they test the rest of the blade we'll know for sure.

This kind of stuff if done honestly is good because it gives the maker good feedback an makes him check his product to make sure there is no problems.

edited because I can't spell for squat sometimes.

I just can't wait for my new one...I love the feel of the DF oh...By the way..The DF, for those seconds before the break, WAS easily winning in the race.

10-4..., I love you to guys...

No problem. Good to see people using them the way they were meant to be used. I am hoping to do something with mine tomorrow and have some fun. Being that it is slightly modified S7 it should be extremely tough.

Cobalt....I've wanted to tell you this since the first time I saw you post on here......I love your Avatar, soo much. And I really have to say I'm sorry to you DAVE, this was a really badass thread. Your test was the real deal, man. Thanks for putting it through the meat grinder for us. Gene

You are a god amongst mere mortals......I'm wheeping with joy.

I just got my Dog Father in the mail today. It is shaving sharp out of the box. Man, this thing is very blade heavy compared to my Satin Battle Rat and Battle Mistress E. It compares to my FSH, although it is longer. It comes real close to the SHBM I use as a benchmark. The only thing I have that outranks it in size and heft wise is a Siegle Hood River. I can't wait to chop into something with the DF. More to come. :)
