DON"T fake it...... The truh about the fake military's

We pay a lot of bread to fight these guys. I must say I'm a bit disappinted that you would intentionally support them. It just keeps them going.

sal

That's all I need to hear.

I discovered Spyderco a few years ago when I wanted a good pocket knife (singular) and did some interweb research.
Now I have 8 Spyderco folders, will get more over time, and am so impressed with the products and the company I would never buy an outright fake/copy after reading Sal's post in this thread.

Respect where respect is deserved.

With respect to others saying this thread is going south, it could be much worse and I think the tone is pretty tame. Someone doing the same on many other forums would receive a fair bit more flack. If there's any doubt, try going to the USN and posting you bought a fake Strider, Hinderer, Emerson or the like.

You have a point, and in comparison the Spyderco sub-forum usually stays good by itself, and has very few mods closing threads. That is part of why I spend almost all my time here.

Ken44, I congratulate you for standing up and saying it. My gosh, how much piling on is enough?

Sometimes it takes a lot of piling to get through to someone over in the interwebz...

He did come in here and admit that he bought fakes. He also chose to publicly admit it was a mistake and encourage others not to repeat his mistake. Lot of folks berating the guy for his lack of class or whatever, but continuing to flog the guy after he owned his error isn't much better I reckon. He did it, admitted it, and encouraged others not to do the same. I doubt there's much to be gained from carrying on with this.

P.S. Hey Bill, sorry if that looked like a response to your post...it wasn't. Just my thoughts after watching the whole thread spiral downward.

Hey Gringo, I don't really think the guys are really berating the OP. It's like just you go to your friends and admit that you got a $5 hooker. You'll get a lot of ribbing when you complain about the rough "fit and finish". ;)

Now THAT makes sense! Why didn't somebody come up with such an apt analogy sooner?! :D:D.

I couldn't agree more. It is the civil and polite nature of this forum that make it pleasant to frequent. The spyderco forum has the same energy. I attribute a lot of that to Sal and the example he sets.

Yes, I knew they were fake. I just wanted to see the quality.... I have supported Spyderco form day 1 of my "tactical knife" buying.. Even if the quality had been great, I would have never bought another. I have told the person who gave me the website and everyone of the knifers that were in our discussion when he told it to us....I have a bunch of Spyderco products and continue to buy more because of their quality and overall value.....Bashing me will not do any good because i know that i am not the only one who has bought one...The people selling the fakes as original to others, giving the website to buy them, and the one's who lie and say that the quality is the same as Spyderco's are the bad guys... I told everyone about it because they needed to know that if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck it may be a duck, but if it looks like a Spyderco and opens like a Spyderco it may NOT be a Spyderco...No matter what anyone thinks, I told the TRUTH.....Thanks

For the $70 you spent, you could have bought a Manix, Native, or saved up for a Millie.

Dumb.

$35 dollars for both..... Me buying these prevented alot of my knife collecting friends from buying them... there was one of my friends who had considered buying a bunch and "making some money off of them" ....those were his exact words. If you look in bladeforums at a couple of the threads concerning these fakes, people are saying how good their quality is (bullcrap) and how you can't tell the difference between them and the real one's (more bullcrap). As soon as i saw them, I laughed. I am a person who tells the truth !!!! i have no real ties to any knife company or product except for the few brands i favor, Spyderco being at the TOP. I basically gave a Honest review that tells everyone that you get what you pay for.

Curious to know what would have happened if they were decent quality or exceeded your expectations? Would you have bought more? Would you have reported back here that they were great?

Guess the OP learned his lesson the hard way. I'd rather own just one real Spyderco than a fistful of fakes. There was a time when the only Spyderco I owned was an early model GIN-2 Endura...that knife was reliable and provided great satisfaction. I checked the lock-up on it yesterday, and despite having seen it share of challenges it's rock solid. I keep it in the center console of the family vehicle.

Then there's the act of depriving a business of those things that they worked hard to achieve that needs to be kept in mind. We honor honest efforts by direct support. Cutting corners is usually bad form.

I'm willing to believe the OP has learned from his mistake.

If you buy fake Spydercos the terrorists win. That, and Sal will personally come to your house and give you the most ferocious nipple-twister known to man.

Hi Mblackfu,

Thanx for the honesty. I can see all points of view. We've been fighting this crap since the late 90's. Sorry about your friend out to make a bunch of money. Funny how honor and ethics play a small role with some when a buck can be made. It's a major problem, not just for Spyderco, but for rmany in America. Appreciate your sounding the alarm.

sal

Absolutely no sympathy from me. Don't buy crap!
Lets all make a pact to stop buying fake sub standard copies. I think China are set to take over the world. Is there nothing they wont rip off.
We all need to support the companies that put all the thought and care into designing and producing great knives. If we don't support our favourite knife companies they could end up going the same way as many great UK cutlers!
I for one will not consider spending my money on copies of any kind. It's just not fair!
There are a couple of Chinese companies that do produce knives for some of the top names (Sanrenmu for an example) and produce a few under their name and they are great quality and not a bad choice-but fakes.....No Way!

Sal, I'm proud to be a Spyderco owner, multiple models, all with the intent to help your company thrive and continue your great work.

Hey, sorry jobasha11. Didn't mean to offend. That was a general comment for the doofus who thought it was a good idea to buy fakes in the first place...not for you or I.
I should have worded that better:)
