Don't hear much about Toothpicks?

I just handled a Case Large TX Toothpick today. It was lighter than I expected, and the blade a bit more flexible than I like.

If I bought one I might have to make a neck sheath for it.

Well I've called mine a 'large' toothpick, it's just over 4 inches long closed.

Is there a larger model? as this doesn't seem too big to EDC.

And I should have said Texas Toothpick.

Large toothpicks are around 5"
Medium toothpicks are around 4"
Small toothpicks are around 3"

I think I like the medium the best right now. Not too big, not too small.

Mediums are harder to find. The large and small are more common.

How are these in the pocket? I considered a small one but the fairly pointed end seems like it might poke me or be uncomfortable in some positions.

In the limited time it's been in my pocket it seems fine.

The length seems to keep it upright. Nice light knife too.

Ive actually carried my large Toothpicks in my back pockets or leg pockets. I typically wear Dickies brand work trousers in that style. I have never found them uncomfortable with this type of carry.

I like the toothpick. One of the few knives that is on my "want list" is the A.G. Russell Texas Ranger Toothpick. It has a beautiful 4" leaf-shaped blade. I hesitated when I had the chance, and when I finally decided to buy it I found out that it was discontinued.

Got a pic?
sounds nice...

Here is the Ken Erickson toothpick I got from bdws1975 (thanks Brett). A little over 4 1/4 inches, about 7 5/8 when you open her up. Not too big, not too small, but just right as Goldilocks would say. Blade steel is 01. I found an earlier post by Ken about this knife and he said it was his first attempt at dying and jigging his own bone.

My father's EDC (& stone) until the mid 80's when I bought him a SAK.

The yellow one is a K-Bar fish knife from the 70's.
Next is a Queen.
Bottom is my only Y2K souvenir, a Bulldog.

I guess Pop left an impression.

Wow, + 1 on that KE custom Toothpick Rob! I had seen it before when Brett still had it but your photo's really show all the detail. I am glad it found a good home with you there.. Very !

There's some talk of it being associated with certain tough guy types, being a sort of knife that might get pulled out during a bar fight. There are some switchblade designs based on Toothpick-like patterns, which may add to this cache....

In my younger years, the sort of people who used to carry straight razors as weapons in my Dad's younger years started gravitating towards the large toothpick - probably because it was once one of the longest slimmest pocketable knives, and a little fancier than getting into a knife fight with a shaving tool.

I hardly ever see anyone carrying one anymore, but I did see a guy at the grocery store had one - about six months ago.

There is a red delicious apple on my kitchen counter that has been giving me the stink eye every time I walk into the room. I'm thinking I will show that surly apple just how it was that a Texas toothpick earned that dark, dangerous reputation. :D

Got some nice rare toothpick pix here:thumbup:

I really like texas (full size) toothpicks.

Had my eye on Case's damascus & indian stag one for awhile now.

really like that raindrop pattern;)

Some great looking knives.
This a timely thread I just got my first toothpick, courtesy of Ritt.
I've been carrying it for a couple of days, great user, good slicer & good ergonomics for comfort.
Cheers

I have one.
A very fine knife, pleasing to the eye.
Sharpen to very sharp...
Too long at 5" to carry as an EDC
I use it as a bread knife

I would recommend it.

There are plenty on the market.
