Don't like the new smiley

Y'all know the one I'm talking about. I'm no prude, far from it, but a smiley rolling it's eyes and mimicing masturbation just strikes me as a bit tasteless. If the rest of you like this thing I'll refrain from further comment, but I'd not be surprised to find I'm not the only one who finds it at least a little offensive.

I think it's funny, however I was surprised to see it show up on Bladeforums cause they are really pretty clean cut. They have a program that even blocks a lot of cuss words which in the scheme of things that particular smiley I would think it more offensive than a lot of the words they block. Seems kind of out of character for BF.

I don't care for it either. The internet as a whole seems to be geared to just this sort of thing and thinking though. A social commentary all by itself in handy little format, I think.

I hate smileys in general and don't use them. But, you're right, Sarge, if it's kept around, I'll be very careful before I show any more forum pages to my 12-year-old.

I agree. I'm not offended by it, but i think it is too easily played as trump card in a forum that prides itself on communication, agreeing to disagree, and walking in another's shoes.
If some one says something that another doesn't agree with, then one is almost forced in the situation to explain his or her logic to the other person. This usually will lead to both party's seeing the other's point. Now we have a "Whatever..'offending smiley'" option. I can see this being useful in the W&C and Cove as it is frequented with idoits starting posts that make no sense what so ever. In the Cantina, i think it would be best to use that smiley as a last resort for idiot trolls:D
Anyway, I'm not offended by it. i have a sailor's mouth and am far less refined than many of our regulars (Think of me a chimp in a tux). I have no problem with it, but i don't want to lose any of our more morally upstanding forumites because of it.

Darn, I thought the guy was shaking his fist at someone as a threat! I better go edit all my posts so that no one gets the wrong idea...

Just kidding; I haven't used it and won't. I swear like a sailor, but I put a muzzle on when in polite company or around kids. Anyone, though, can open up one of my threads or posts, so I will refrain from using it.

edit~ Steely, looks like even not so great minds think alike :~)

I think it was just a subtle reminder from bladeforums management that if we don't reform our ways our faces will turn round and green.

Hey so if you:jerkit: Then you'll end up  (sorry, couldn't resist;) )

Yeah I don't like it either and I'd rather not see it showing up in our threads.

Sorry I'm no prude either but... .

Hollow, that is pretty dang funny! You know, you really won't go blind. My dad did tell me though that you lost a hair everytime. He obviously didn't know what he was talking about, because I'm bald. Hey, wait a second....

It's nice to see that we've solved all the other problems in the world so that we have time to argue about the appropriateness of a forum smiley.

:jerkit:

Sadly it's probably been used more now in this thread which was against it than any of us ever used it before. (I admit being the tasteless B*stard who used it the first time here- Sorry Sarge:foot: )

I thought he was just scratchin' his cheek, thinkin'! It took me a day or two to figure it out, then again,I'm not the sharpest sword in the kake. :jerkit:

If I find a rattlesnake in the woods, I leave it alone because it belongs there. If I find one crawling in my yard, I kill it stone dead. My interpretation of appropriateness, sorry if it offends you.

See my previous post in this thread. Case in point.

I brought this up in the first place over in the service and support forum, and I agree with you guys, I don't think it has a place here, but it's Spark's decision. I remember a while ago, a guy got banned for something similiar.

I've seen a lot of things on this forum that are hands down more NSFW than the smiley.

Whine and Cheese, Pirate's Cove... Busse Forum anyone?

We try to keep those things to a minimum in the HI forum, rather than making it easy/convenient.

This ain't whine and cheese or pirate's cove. YEah it's Spark's decision, but I think he will respect our desire to keep things on a more tasteful level. Or not. Either way I think WE ought to respect each other's opinions and not slam people for expressing them.
