I just wanted to give everyone the heads up that there still a chance that a knife can poke through a zipper in a zippered case, especially if it's a heavier knife. This happened to me recently, so for your own sake, and the recipient you should still probably use a cardboard sheath or something. Fortunetly for me, it didn't break through the box, which it could have easily done.
That's all. Thanks.

Walking Man,Good advice,I learned the hard way,now I wrap cardboard liner around blade, fold cardboard back at the tip and tape.

Sorry to read about your knife. It must not have been a Bill's Case. Bill has demonstrated his zipper cases by putting a knife in them and throwing it across the room. He says he will pay for any knife that is damaged. He has not paid yet.

Some knifemakers ship their knives in PVC pipe packaged inside a box!

Correct Chuck.It was not a Bill's,was gonna' post that,don't know why I didn't.I only use Bill's now.The very best.IMO.

I use Bill's cases and have had a knife slide out. I learned and always tape extra cardboard over the tip end.

I've had a couple bowies poke their points out of the cheaper cases in shippment.

I now use Bills cases with a cardboard blade guard or a cork stuck on the point. Bills cases have more padding and hold the knife tighter, so as not to slide around.

I've always used a cardboard sleeve, and I've still seen the tip pierce both sleeve and case, but never split a cork.My girlfriend uses a cardboard sleeve ,Then usually wraps it in bubble wrap and Then puts it in the zippered case.I haven't heard any complaints from buyers about pierced cases yet.Where do you get these "Bill's" cases? Good thread Walking Man:cool:

I have a supply of corks at my studio. Whenever a knife comes in a case without one (unless it's Bills) I put a cork on it and secure it with a little more wrap. It happens often.

Most cases provide adequate protection for collection and mild personal transport. Anything that requires shipping requires you to do your homework.
