don't want to use

I also say use it, I used to buy two of everything only to sell at least one at a loss so I started buying gently used off of the forum and use everything that I have bought from an Umnumzaan to Hinderer to MT Scarab since I would have not used them if bought new plus you save a few $$ and help a brother out.

As much as I love ZT's, I currently have (or had) one of each model (say a 0301 but not one of each of the 0300 series), and this one is discontinued but they are not rare or overly collectible (except for the really limited runs, say 0777)...even the 0392's are easy to find if you want one.

For me, I really don't care if I never use a knife as I have plenty to use anyway. BUT, you have to ask yourself if that matters to you at all....

Perhaps dying and somebody dumping it in a trash can because they don't know what it is, or sold at a yard sale for $20. Does it matter to you? My answer to those questions are generally "I don't care." So, I can live with not using a knife regardless of what happens to it in the future. I am no knife collector nor do I ever want to be. That's me. Now you....

You really like the knife and I don't sense a budding collector in you. USE IT.

For those that bought two of everything.... I tried that with art prints. They are relatively valuable. Investment right? Well, 20 years have passed and I have a pile of unframed art prints and wall to wall framed art prints with no more room for more. We're talking many thousands of dollars spent... Money mostly poured down the drain the way I see it. I'll only buy two knives now if I intend to use them and want a spare as things go out of production. I might add that the only true spare knife I own is a SAK, the same one I carry every day and I have three or four spares because they went out of production and I like the model. Other than that... no intentional spares of knives. There's always a new one that catches my eye anyway.

It never ceases to amuse me when I hear people say something like:
"Check it out, I just got a new Bench River Large Seben54 with super indestructible FeTiMe coated ultra dynamic bearings and S45MaxV UHD steel! I could cut a trapped demigod out of a granite prison cell surrounded by lava and not do any damage to the knife! I use it to cut little paper slivers on youtube to impress my friends, if I need to do any really nasty work though (like open plastic clamshell packages) I use my beater Ozark Trail knife I got at the Wal-Mart."

I appreciate everyone's reaponse. I am definitely going to pull it out. What good is it doing by just sitting in a box. I use my zt 0350 and grew more attached to it. I guess I need to start rotating more.

Another vote for "Use it!" Knives are tools. Sometimes they're expensive tools. What the point of owning the best tool you can afford if you're not using it? Bet you could find a pretty looking m-tech if you really needed a paperweight. Much cheaper, equally effective paperweight.

I forgot what this thread is really about now but if you don't want to use it sell it weather you don't like it as you thought you would or weather you just can't use something so nice or pretty my view is sell what you don't/won't use unless it has some type of sentimental value.

I'm about to put a bunch of very nice knives up for sale. I barely use them. They are really beautiful but I'm not a collector.

Which is why you would be selling them... lol

I can think of a five folding knives that I own more than one of. Four are because they are discontinued. One is a replacement for a knife I lost and then found. I would use any of these if there was a need. One I plan to be buried with.

Life is too short not to use your knives.

Here are my thoughts. Use it. When you are finally buried 6 feet under ground.. someone else will use it. What was the point of not using it at that point? Answer..nothing.
I'm starting to use my $300 plus knives as users here and there as some are autos not allowed in my chicken s**t State.
I will use regardless.

I buy two of the ones I truly covet. A user and a treasure.

But in your case , I say use it for just light duty/edc tasks. You can't enjoy it if you don't use it somewhat.

Good advice.
The trouble is, favourites are often too rare or expensive to have two of them, so rather than have duplicates I pick the less favourite of similar ones to be used.

Not using a knife is for me far more enjoyable than using it... In the case of fighters, or knives kept for emergencies, I would be much happier if they never got used (beyond testing them, often with a post-test refinishing to pristine condition).

There's enough knives in a collection to have users and non-users.

There is an upcoming knife which I'm thinking of buying two of. Not for a safe queen but as backup. I think it's going to be that close to perfect. My wallet might disagree though. :)

1. I'm too cheap to buy two of everything so no safe queens for me.
2. I believe knives are tools and meant to be used.

S45MaxV UHD steel! Elaborate please, I'm intrigued.

As others have said, there's always going to be something new that you will like. You may as well get your money's worth out of your current knife before you move on.

I always say use it. In my mind, a safe queen is going to eventually be sold. I'd rather use a knife, as it's intended and get my money's worth out of it.

Use it, don't abuse it.
I have a bunch I feel that way about, but after breaking down, carrying and using them......I like them even more!!
If it makes you happy just to fondle and flick it, then just fondle and flick away!!

After you're dead, true collector stuff get recycled eventually. Somebody will talk about the special knife they found at a flea market or a show. But, somebody may well use it or them in the "between time" or they get dumped in the trash because somebody doesn't want to deal with it. I view guns a bit differently and many don't. People first of all don't dump guns in the trash. The really nice stuff will find their way into another collection. If you really like stuff, the struggle is to let go of them in a timely manner so that you can choose where they are likely to end up, hopefully with another collector. But some people will use them regardless of something being worth thousands of dollars and fairly easily sold.

I tend to agree about using if you seek more than just fondling it from time to time. My brother in law had an original Moran fixed blade (Worth $10,000+ with willing buyers). Beautiful knife. Worth a lot. He used it and eventually sold it. He was getting older and my sister didn't like so many $ tied up in something like knives because she knew nothing about them. Did the value decrease? Probably, but he didn't really care as he bought it to cut stuff with, maybe not rough stuff, but still cut stuff with it.

Personally, I love seeing well used knives with some wear and tear on them posted here. I would like seeing those over perfect examples of knives that have zero wear marks on them. I wish more people would post well used knives for sale here as well. I would but them up! But I get at some point, not worth selling a well used knife at a lower price.

This actually puts you in a peculiar position that we don't see that often.

You can create a thread documenting the life of your knife. It's weekly usage (since posting daily might wear on you), how it holds up to your needs and expectations, any issues you may find, et al.

Looking forward to some user pics!
