Doomsday Preppers

This thread died fast. I hope the show survives. The plans are diverse. The first guy in the first episode reminded me of Burt from "Tremors". Chris was cool to watch. Basically a low key existence of scrapping by in the wild.

I gotta say, I've seen each of the two premiers and the original one time preppers show and although I think being prepared is good, simply having a ton of crap don't mean sqwat. If something like and explosion wipes out your "compound" then you're assed out if you don't know the basic primitive skills and some decent camp craft. Aside from Chris none of them discussed their abilities to make fire or shelter should they be left with the clothes on their back and nothing else. The 'party girl' was a total idiot who when shown on her update had enlisted in the Army and didn't really seem to care about prepping anymore, so I assume it was some phase she went through. Some of the people did have decent set ups and plans and should whatever cataclysmic event that occurs allow them to live it out in their homes, then they are set for sure. But the likely hood of that is 50/50 at best so they should focus a bit more on hitting the road securely. I've dreamed of making a mobile home from a school bus since I was 12, but if I did so for those reasons I would have fortified it for the long haul with a secondary fuel tank, reinforced sides/windows, portable generator, spare part of all kinds and whaever else I can think of to basically turn it into a big yelllow tank.;) Several of their Doomsday scenarios were really far fetched but their plans weren't that bad at all. After a true Doomsday event a 72hour kit ain't gonna do much if there is no government to get things back on track in those 3 days. I would want at least 30 days of supplies though 3-6months would be ideal. I sure wouldn't stock 20+ years worth though. All in all the show is worth watching for entertainment as well as a few tips/ideas for preparing a cache of my own. Hell all I have for food right now is a few cases of MREs :)

Evidently the first people feathred (the ones canning everything in sight) who thought the Earth Plates would shift have never been in an earthquake. They had no safety straps running the length of their shelves to hold the jars etc. on the shelves to keep them from falling on the floor. After the first few seconds of shaking, all their goods in glass would be broken and useless.

Bugging out as they did with busses and cars is fine with no other traffic on the road but in a real emergency, they probably wouldn't be able to move any distance in any acceptable time.

I too can't remember if I saw any jars that were secured in any of the shots for any of them. I didn't get to see the rest of the show starting with the girl in the city. I thought the Texas compound made of shipping containers had the best plan for survival so far. They could bug out easily with their equipment and plan. In Texas, roads are plentiful and the ground is flat and mostly treeless. I'm assuming most of them have some outdoor survival skills. The city girl probably didn't and maybe not the Utah couple. But if they're processing venison and cutting their own cords of firewood, growing their own food and slaughtering their own chickens, I'm assuming they know how to start a fire and build a shelter. If an explosion wiped out their compound, wouldn't they be dead? I'm sure in the coming episodes were going to see someone with an underground bomb shelter, another on a boat, and some other cool ideas. I'd like to see one with a Viet Cong style underground shelter. That would be cool.:p Most of them hint that they're not revealing everything they have on the show.
