S.P.- what you said about using springboards. And, another reason to make the felling cut so high was because the best time to fell is in the dead of winter. The sap is in the root system and the snow on the ground makes it a hell of a lot easier to skid.
A lot of Pugets had 42" hafts, the one I got from my grandfather had a 42". Thirty+ years ago, when Mr O.P. Link was still alive, I was able to buy 42" hafts from him.
