Double Carry EDC

There are those of us who sometimes carry two knives. Some think that makes no sense.

My one and only EDC from ages 16-25 was a 4" Old Timer 125OT, a 4" traditional. So I feel naked without a 4" knife, but like carrying my other knives as well so I often carry two. Also, I get to appreciate another knife whenever I want to check one out. I have about 18 in somewhat constant rotation.

My 0770cf goes in the LFP and my 0562cf in the RFP, for instance. Or two of my CRK Zaans, one LH and the other RH.

What other combos do any of you carry?

After I go for a bike ride, later tonight I'll post some pics of some of my combos.

What are yours? Pics too if you have the time... :sneakiness:

I don't double carry anymore, but back when I was trying it out I really liked the Dragonfly/Endura combo. If I was feeling more Kershaw, I would carry a Scallion/Blur combo.

Right now I have a Case 6375CV in my left front, a Buck Vantage clipped to my right front, a Bark River City Knife in my right rear and a Case Backpocket in my left rear pocket. This is the least amount of knives that I carry, sometimes I also have 1 or 2 on my belt.

Good topic. I have been wondering why some people carry 2,3, even 5 knives that are of similar size and function on their person. One conclusion is that hell, we love knives and we can so we do. I carry a vic tinker plus one of many spydercos (para 2, manix 2) or seb 21. I carry the vic pretty much exclusively for the drivers bc they serve a specific function at my job and the main blade for cutting tasks, as the tiny blade on the vic seems irrelevant compared to the para or seb 21. But I am anxious to get other guys opinions on this.

At one point I was carrying 4 at work, thanks to the Blackhawk WW pants and their great back pockets I was able to carry all 4 using the pocket clips and still have easy access. I had my ZT0566 for the heavy-duty cutting, but since that was slower to deploy and scared people more I also had a Delica 4 for the lighter cutting uses and with the ziptie wave mod it was a faster deploy. The other two I had were a cheap crappy boxcutter I got given by my manager to use at work, it's sharp but lacks cutting power and is really only good for cutting cardboard and/or shrink-wrap efficiently, and a RAT 1 for the knife uses where I might damage the blade and didn't want to hurt my main 2 knifes (also for flipping when I was bored, that thing is smooth opening).

Now I just carry the Delica in LFP and ZT in RFP (I'm left-handed). I also still carry the boxcutter in my LRP or replace the ZT with it when I'm actually at work.

We have these discussions occasionally- there are several scenarios where carrying 2 knives make sense to me. I would carry a nice folder and also carry a beater folder to use for dirty jobs where I don't want to use the nice folder, or to use on the occasion that someone wants to borrow a knife. Some people carry a small secondary folder in case they need to use it in front of people that would be scared by a larger folder but I don't worry about that.

My main problem is that I have other things competing for my pocket space so it is difficult for me to carry a secondary folder. My second problem is that I also want to be able to carry a small multitool so that would be another thing competing for my pocket space. I have a Spyderco Delica and a Byrd Hawkbill to try out for secondary carry, and a Leatherman Juice as a small multitool.

I change my combinations frequently, but it is always a small knife paired with a big knife.

I've contemplated the idea of dual/multiple carry. The only other knife guy I know in person dual carries a "utility" knife, usually an Emerson or a Strider and a dedicated fighter, an Emerson Combat Karambit. I've thought about doing the same but I'm not a knife fighter, where as my friend has been a martial artist for decades.

In pocket at the moment, a Cold Steel Mini Tuff Lite and a Rajah 3 serrated. The Mini handles any smaller cutting tasks, and the Rajah takes care of any bigger ones.

I used to carry two one handed folders. One in the right front and one in the back left pockets. I thought it was kind of redundant so i stopped. Now I like to pair up a folder and a fixed blade.

I've grown fond of carrying a knife (fixed or folder) and a SAK (or multitool), that combination seems to take care of most of my needs. I like having a couple of tools besides my knife, and the SAK is usually more people friendly.

Sometimes, I carry two folders (one in my right pocket and one in my left) that somehow "go together". It might be two versions of the same model (like my regular Manix 2 and S90V/CF Manix 2, or my Mini Manix and Manix, etc.) or two models that complement each other (like a Delica an an Endura with the same handle colour). If my main knife for the day is too self-defence oriented (say, like an Emerson Karambit) I always add something more practical.

Also, since I live in a relatively dangerous city, I usually carry a second knife in my left pocket for emergency use (handgun retention if it's one of the rare instances in which my government allows me to properly defend myself with one of my guns, or as a self defence option if I can't get to the knife in my right pocket).

However, I think the main reason why I carry more than one knife is just because I like them and it allows me to rotate through more knives each week. :D

I carry three at work...KH Plan D, 770cf and Victorinox Super Tinker.
I use all three for different tasks and probably the Tinker most frequently due to its' multi-tool capabilities.
When I'm hiking I add the Bark River DPH to the usual two pocket knives.

I carry four knives most every day, a CUDA CQB II 4" fixed blade, horizontal at 11:00 for defensive use, one of a dozen or so Benchmade Axis knives on my right front pocket for most cutting tasks, a serrated Spyderco Ladybug 2 in my pocket for cutting zip ties, cables, etc., and a tiny Swiss Army knife in my keychain. The blade is too small to be very useful but I use the tweezers, scissors, and fingernail tool regularly.

I do the "big and small" thing regularly, like a ZT 0560BW and a Kershaw Doublecross, or a Kershaw black tanto Groove and a Leatherman Wingman (in my pockets right now). As much as I like large knives, it's nice to have a smaller blade available for those jobs where a large blade would be awkward.

I carry a Leatherman Style on my key chain and either a Spyderco Dragonfly, Cat, or Delica, depending on what I am doing.

Two knives every day when possible. A smaller folder deep in the pocket--a Dragonfly G10 these days--and a 3-3.5" model clipped in another pocket.

I always carry my Techno and one larger knife such as the Umnumzaan.
