Doug Ritter for my next Becker? Thoughts?

If they threw us a bone and included micarta for the asking price, I would call the pricing "competitive" and I would own one.

I currently have 2 sets of blue G10 handles, one on my BK2 and one on my BK7. The plan is to take the handles off of my BK2, stipple the ones that came with it and put those back on the BK2. Then move the G10s over to the Ritter. I'll have to decide whether to hollow out a spot for the weights or go Ethan Becker and decide to remove them (Ritter talks about a difference in opinion between he and Ethan regarding where the balance point should be. Ethan in favor of weight tip down, Ritter in favor of true balance - the weights are there so the consumer can decide).

Gorgeous hadles there. Did you make or purchase them?

yeah. I would like a set of those scales. where did you find them?

Just to be clear those are G10, not micarta although they have a micarta look to them in the pics. Anyway, I bought them (learning to make micarta scales is on my to-do list) and they are available in several different colors. A bit pricey at $65, but very nice - IMHO.

Edit:
BTW, they don't list the Ritter (or BK12) for these handles. I read elsewhere that they work, but am not positive of that. In this comparison picture, they seem identical. In my case, since there will be no cost involved, I plan to give it a try. YMMV.

love the BK12 -- whatever name you call it by. ;)
put micarta on mine and it mimics the balance of the grivory with all 3 weights.

I bought a set of these scales for my BK12 from the Knife Connection. Won't work. After giving them a try on the BK12, I removed the Becker micarta scales from my BK5 and put them on the BK12. Had to remove the weights but didn't notice the difference.

The G10 scales from Knife Connection work fine on the BK5 . . . and I suspect any other full size Becker. The ad is very explicit in this regard . . . but I was hoping they might fit the BK12. :o

They will fit the BK12/Ritter MKII, but you will have to remove the balance weights in the tang, or drill some of your scales out. I removed them when I put micarta on my 12. Making some oak scales for my 12 is on my "projects to finish" list.

Ordered it awhile ago. Should get here next week. Looking forward to Becker #3. :)

And thanks to all you great folks for good info and replies. It was much appreciated.

Good choice on the 12. I've got #053 with micarta. I also put it in a spec-ops Combat Master short sheath.

I hope you like it a lot. :D. I had fun playing with the weights for a couple days.

I want to get a custom sheath from godspeed tactical for mine. His scout sheaths look so cool and mulit-functional.

here are my thoughts: If Ethan had anything to do with it, it's going to be good.

If Rowen made it, it's going to be good.

If it is Made in the USA, it's going to be good!

I like bacon.

So....got in my BK12 today and tried to swap scales. As SpikeHawk and ralphtt posted, the scales will not work on the BK12. The problem is the location of the weights. One has to either remove the rear weight & some metal - or - redrill the scales. Not interested in either solution. I had hoped that I could just trim some of the scale underneath creating a space so the weights would fit but not be visible, but no such luck. :(

FWIW.

But the knife is very cool. I like the weights where they are. Played with different configurations, but I guess that I agree with Ritter. I like mine balanced and not tip heavy (sorry Ethan).

I got mine 4 months ago or so, new at knifeworks, and it was not numbered. They offer engraving and I wish I would have gotten something engraved. I was just not sure how much I was going to like the knife.

I know the claim that with all plugs in makes it balance neutral. I took all of the plugs out. It balances on my finger just about at the first screw, but it feels more neutral in my hand than with the plugs in. It feels to me that it is handle heavy with the plugs in.

I do not know why. I have large fat hands, and it just feels that way to me. I like mine with the plugs out.

Nice knife.
