Doug Ritter Mini Griptilian 556?

I'm mostly with you, Steve, but you forgot to insert "Benchmade's butter-soft version of the" in front of "formidable." :( That is obviously a little bit of an overstatement, like the reference to S30V, but CPM-M4 will perform better at higher Rc levels than Benchmade runs.

Well...you could put the $255 towards a new Sebenza, or buy a second hand one from the apparently large number of dissatisfied owners who fell for the "Get a Sebenza!!" hype, before realising that it is a fairly mediocre pocket knife.

Or, if you prefer the formidable CPM-M4 steel to Chris Reeve's butter-soft S30V, you could buy the 551BK-101 - a knife that you would never want to sell.

:D

According to Benchmade's table of Steel , their CPM M4 runs 60-62 Rc which may not be as high as some would like, but probably has much to do with Benchmade's toughness requirements. Steel is a compromise.

Yes - Spyderco (accidentally, it turned out) ran the GBs at 64-65 Rc. Just about everything with knives (and life :D) is a compromise, but that seems to be working out very well.
