Douk-Douk: A Love Affair (Warning...Verbose!)

That is the pointiest Douk-douk I think I've seen. Looking good Robert. Now, make yourself a snack and put it to work! Mine just sliced an apple and some cheese. It sure does love to slice!

Thanks, I'm hunting an apple as we speak! :D

ETA:
Well, I got an apple out of the fridge out on the back porch....been in the teens and 20's here at night and the apple was frozen a little but the Douk made short work of quartering it.

I'm liking this knife a lot!!!!!!

As a paramedic, I work a part time job in the local Emergency Room, which requires me too wear a pair of scrubs about 10-12 days out of the month. A Douk Douk is a perfect carry in the front pocket of a pair of scrubs, it almost disappears and it is easy to forget you are carrying one.

I got mine today, straight from the mail box and took it to work. Cut up boxes with it, loved it, it's a great knife and I'm real happy with it.

congratulations on a fine knife. I am getting ready to fly off for christmas and will be packing my douk-douk as a solid knife that i'm not afraid to lose to the TSA.

I had to go check the point on my unused backup Douk.. I guess you could say the point is rounded, had not noticed before. Guess I dont use it enough :-), since I usually have a Charlow with me. It lives in one of my camper vans. Size trivia, the large Douk weighs 68 grams, the pictured single blade Charlow weighs 58 grams, and a 2 blade Charlow weighs 72 grams.

The Douk-Douk is my EDC and most used knife for almost 7 years now and I've use it for almost all and everything. It's the chrome handeled version with the stainless blade.
To me there is no other design that fits my needs so well. It's flat (no pocket bulk). It took all abuse without chipping or bending. It's legal to carry over here. It's French (I love traditional French knives).
Plus ou moins il est parfait!

Cool Molf! So is yours the "squirrel" version?

SAK Guy - the evil ones at Cognet make a chrome-handled version of the Douk-Douk in both stainless and carbon. To me, it's a bit like sporting a chrome-plated .45: Your brain says "too flashy" and your soul says "I'll take two. Wait, three, in case one grows legs." I have one but it mostly stays on the Douk-Douk rack - it feels to me like I should only carry it for formal occasions. :D One of these days I'll probably add a stainless to my collection, but right now it feels like that's not true to the spirit of the Douk-Douk. But I felt that way about the squirrel at first, and now it's a fave of mine.

I EDC the typical Douk-Douk, and yeah, it's love. Something about the bizarre alternate-universe vibe of the things. At first I only carried an Opi #7, but I felt like I needed something a little heavier-duty, so the douk is my worker (mostly destroying cardboard boxes)and the Opi is for food or precision work. Recently I discovered the small douks and I got a little squirrel for my keychain. The small douks are great, and just as addicitive - I've got the mini douk, squirrel, tiki and wharncliffe. I NEED. HELP.

I ordered a Douk Douk a few days ago, can't wait to receive it! Should go nicely with my Opinel and Mercator.

I will add a Squirrel to the collection in 2014!

Hunter S - They did. I can't find them now, even on the French site I've ordered from. Maybe some European forum members could track one down for you? They also made a douk with a grafting blade (that modified sheepsfoot with the bump) for the German market that had the arabesque etched on the blade! Usually custom blade shapes have no etching. I haven't been able to track one of those down, but I'm still looking.

CJZ - you'll dig your douk. Sometimes they need a little stropping, but other than that, I've never seen them have any trubs. And yeah, those three will go together like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman :D

SAK guy - you'll like the squirrel. If you can get your hands on a small squirrel someday, treat yourself. It's a terrific backup EDC knife.

I just remembered another great thing about the douk-douk: They come from the factory slathered in axle grease to lubricate the joint and protect the blade. I've never seen anyone mention that, and it's a little thing, but it's such a great touch - it says "this thing is a real tool that was made in a real shop, GRR."

I had the same style of leather lace on my Douk-Douk! I have since sold it to a friend, but I'm on the lookout for another, and a K55K. Excellent knives all around. And yep, that point needs a bit of work when you get it. ;)

@ SAK Guy:

What is wrong about experimenting with a forced patin ... wait, need to check how my first BalsamicOpinel comes along ... and order a DOUK DOUK while I am at it ... cya later :D

My bad - I've been informed I should have said "sheepsfoot" and not "wharncliffe." There's a sheepsfoot version.

Anybody out there have the giant douk? I want to get something funky for the rack-o-douks.
